Ordered, just gotta wait 30-60 days now..lol I'm not in the wife's best books...:O

Cheers for your help, hopefully I can sort it when it lands, otherwise it will be new bike...if she doesn't guilt me into a new bike before the controller lands

The top light pair are switched by the LCD (battery voltage). The lower pair are unswitched battery voltage. By speed test sensor, they mean wheel-speed sensor, which you need to display the dpeed and stop the controller going to sleep. If you don't have one, you can use one cut off from an ols cycle computer, or you can buy a cheap cycle computer and nick the speed sensor.

I just noticed that yours has the speed wire in with the hall wires rather than the separate connector. Did you have a LCD on the bike before? If so, is there a separate wheel speed semnsor or is the sensor in the motor? If not, then you probably need to add a sensor, like i suggested in the post above.

Hall effect sensors are in the motor. They respond to magnetism, like read switches. the magnets in the motor switch them on and off, which gives a speed signal.

Which connector is on the end of your sensor on the fork? How many wires does it have?

Ok,

I have no large hall plug from the bike to go to the controller

I have connect power...power for wheel, LCD, pas

Speed sensor doesn't have a plug on controller, but looks like it's red, black & white....connected these to the red black and green on speed sensor...

I pedal and get a whir noise, but no drive

I've not connected brakes or throttle, etc as one of the wires came out of the lever, and I'm not sure how they go to the controller yet...

The motor's running backwards.Without hall sensors, it has to guess at which way to turn. You can try swapping positions of any two phase wire (motor wires). if it still runs backwards, swap them back and try again, then try another two. Eventually, it will start running forwards.

The speed sensor is easy because you don't have hall sensors. joint the white to the white, the red to the red and the black to the black in that white block. you can just cut the wires of the connector and join them together or nick the connector off your old controller.

So swap around the chunky green, yellow, blue ones ?

Yeh that's what I have done, only they are green, red, black...which I have connected to the hall block wires the same apart from green has gone to white...

Just looked again and see that you have the green self-learning wires. Try this first:
Switch off
Join the green wires
Open the throttle just a bit
Wait until the motor turns the wheel forward smoothly.
Switch off
Unplug the green wires

It should work OK after that, though they can still get confused about which way it has to turn. Once it gets it right, it'll stay like that as long as you don't reconnect the green wires.

Connect the green wires to each other ?

I don't have throttle connected yet, as I will need to extend wires, so just been pedalling...I might do that first as it's a right mare trying to lift wheel , pedal etc with all guts hanging out :D

Big thanks buddy, I couldn't have done it without you.

I tried the green wire..and it just spun the wheel up, the disconnected it ran reverse again, switched the yellow/green motor wires and.......

Bazinga

I did a little dance of course.

I am just going to solder all the connections now, then rebuild the loom, then list it for sale once done. I decided to buy the wife a new whisper 705se, which she is very happy with .
