Hi I've now ordered my motor and battery I've gone for a 1500ah ..so I'm preparing my old bike ready for the convertion..is there any thing that's not in the kit that will trip me up..as I would like to get going asap .ive gone for the color screen..do I need the usb programming lead..and do I need the bottom bracket spanner..
I already have a good selection of bike specialist removal tools..but was not sure if this spanner is one on its own.

Sometimes messy welds inside the bottom bracket prevent the shaft of the BBSxx going through, so you have to Dremmel them back.

Thanks for the advice..I'm stripping it down today and this is the type of thing I want tobe ready for..I will check it out..I did fit a new bottom bracket to this about a year ago so should come apart alright..hopefully..I've not used this bike for a while as I have another bike I use a lot..both are Carrera Kraken. But the one I'm converting is about 20 year old..

One problem I had was fitting the bolts that hold on the front sprocket.
It seems the factory had painted the threads and i had to clean them
up with a tap before the bolts would go in.

Is there a regular bike tool that fits the fasteners on the BBS? I thought there might be some kind of wrench, but after failing to secure mine with a channel lock pliers, I bought a wrench that looks like this from my vendor.

I used a pipe wrench to secure the first nut and wrapped a thick rag around the lock nut to prevent marking it, worked fine.:D

Thanks people I'm all striped down and now awaiting delivery of motor and battery..ive realized that as my bike incorporates the brake lever and gear change that I will have to get another 8 speed changer..and obviously do away with the front derailleur and changer. But that will give me a bit more space on the handlebars. Do I need to change the chain and rear cassette or should I just go with what I have..Also is it a problem not having the gear shift sensor or do I need to try it first..

The paint was threadlock to stop the chainwheel working loose;)

You can fit the gear sensor at any time. I'd recommend one on any crank-drive bike.

You don't need to change your combined brake/shifter. What's the problem that you think you need to solve?

No need to change the chain nor the cassette. Get the thing working first, then decide whether you need to change anything. All those things can be changed any time.

Anyway paint -thread lock..whatever it's all feedback..and its this info I need. so a big thanks guys for your input. I'm not normally into all this forum stuff but can't wait to get my first ebike complete...so what ever info you have be it constructive or not is much appreciated..so have most people building using the Bafang middrive using a gear change sensor and what difference is it gonna make.

I was quite surprised to find i didn't need the gear sensor thing BUT thats with a 250w if i went up to the 500w version i think i would get one just to make sure.

Nobody needs the gear sensor, but it makes the gear shifting a lot better. Sure, we get some smart-asses that can do perfect shifts every time by giving the perfect delay in pedalling every time, but some of us mortals don't have/want that level of concentration when we're out enjoying our rides.

LOL I'm just an old fart, i haven't a clue about perfect shifting, the only thing i concentrate on is being in a low gear when i stop. I just ride my bike as normal, isn't that what your meant to do? Oh i do admit i have made some adjustments in the Bafang program as recommended so i dont get a jerky start, if that makes me a smart ass then so be it.

I'm not saying that you're a smart-ass. I just mentioned that to discourage them from telling us why it's a waste of money. I would recommend one for any BBSxx if you can afford it.
