You have to be nuts to go out on a bike in a tropical storm! I was silly enough to ride home on a 130 kg scooter in gale force winds zig-zagging between the overturned caravans and lorry trailors...

Stay safe!

Wind really picking up here now. It's to get worse over the next few hours. Definitely not weather for cycling in.

I left work at about 1pm yesterday as the local council said they were planning to close all three bridges. It was a little windy but nothing dangerous at that time.

I cycled back in this morning through a decently heavy rain shower which was my first chance to properly test this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bicycle-Helmet-Removable-Bike-MTB-Racing-Goggles-Sun-Visor-Casco-Ciclismo-MTB-UV/272462452506?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&var=572029092882&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

And I have to say, this helmet is brilliant, its really comfortable, the visor doesn't touch my nose so its not annoying to wear and even in heavy rain, no water was hitting my eyes at all.

On the downside I do look like a cross between Robocop and a Power Ranger much to the amusement of my wife, my co workers....pretty much anyone who sees me but I've always been a function over form kind of person anyway!

I also have these mudguards fitted now:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/24-26-CYCLE-MUDGUARDS-SET-FRONT-REAR-MOUNTAIN-BIKE-MTB-ROAD-BIKE-V-brake/151737557255?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

They were really cheap, only £7.28 and for that they are not bad at all. The front guard is a huge improvement over the one I had but due to the geometry of my frame the rear guard doesn't cover enough of the rear wheel so I am still getting sprayed.

Plus points, the front guard has no stays so works well on my bike, it is held by one M6 bolt which actually does a good job of holding it straight and true. After I've done a few more runs I will be better placed to test the durability of it and how often it rubs the wheel!
