Is the bottle mounts on a thin aluminium frame actually suitable for mounting a heavy battery?

yes, it's quite securely mounted.

the battery and base weigh 3.2kgs and bolted to the frame with three M5 bolts. One of the 3 threads is the water bottle bolt lug brazed on to the frame, the other two are either another brazed on lug plus one M5 rivnut or two M5 rivnuts. The rivnuts are supplied with the battery kit together with two rubber feet/supports for the round downtube.
