No worries Dave. time I stand on my own two feet with some stuff and stop hassling you.. Will hassle rest of world instead.. Also handy to get other people's ideas.
No worries however we aim to help. Noises on bikes (whether electric or normal) can be a number of different things. If you have more info or queries do not hesitate to contact us or post something on pedelecs. Noises are normally something simple to solve once the location of the noise is known though I appreciate it can be annoying.

COME ON, Wissy - Get your phone taped to the frame & record a video of the noise!

I must admit to waiting with bated breath, to find out what a wierd squelching duck sounds like...

...And what the hell it has to do with a bike

Sounds rather like a crank creaking, to me.

If it's in time with a pedal stroke, could just want snugging up.

But why that would stop when riding unpowered, I have no idea - a not uncommon occurance, unfortunately.

It's a warranty issue, you need to get the bottom bracket and associated gearing greased. A special tool is needed - £100 from Bosch as well as special grease and the workshop manual. I know this because my dealer has had to get all this from Bosch and he had to go through some kind of registration process.
It's not an uncommon problem.

Ironically this was my first suggestion. There is a video on Youtube (with a bike making noise) which I sent to Wissy but the conclusion was that it was a different sound. However we got the grease required to do the work in case this was the problem. The noise does not indciate damage but is annoying. I will listen to video today.

The crank noise on my bike started with a fairly subdued click, but later and under load became louder and even had a double click. Wissy's bike doesn't sound very loud at all, but I suspect that it will get louder.

Hi Electrifying Cycles

The noise I am referring to in the thread isn't the noise I mentioned to you before.. this noise only started after I oiled the chain if you remember?.... no hint of this type of noise until I oiled the chain.

Hi Wissy,
Thanks I remember you saying you had one noise and another one developed later. May not be that motor needs greasing. Could still be from a normal bike part.

Listened to video sounds like faint clicking which is consistent with motor requiring greasing. Could only hear one noise. However do not worry this does not result in damage to the unit. The cause of the noise is that the chainring-side, right floating bearing makes jerky movements (due to soiling or lack of lubrication) when moving in the sliding seat, resulting in a sound.

Hi Wissy,

Sounds like David has everything under control..
Just out of interest (would love to know what a weird duck sounds like) does it sound like the noise in the video here -

It might be just coincidence that that noise occurred after you oiled the chain. There again it could also be that the grease allowed grime/grit to attach and trap itself inside some mechanism. I would look at the pedal crank. Use a size 8 allen key to take off the pedal , check for signs of wear on the inner surface of the pedal, replace pedal, or use locking fluid to secure again.

As for not hearing the noise when you turn off the motor, well that's a bit of a mystery and would appear to point to the motor. With the motor turned off are you still pedaling under load? Crank related noise seems worst under load, as metal on metal noise etc.
