    Should it be legal....?

I don't think the law is ridiculous. It just didn't quite suit me. I also upgraded brake parts as soon as my average speed went up a little. Common sense shall prevail.

    Should it be legal....?

I guess you can take that stance. Maybe I fit into it with the DIY build and a bpm motor. So I built something a tiny bit quicker. Still cycling speeds but more suited to my own riding style. I never ride like an idiot and I never brag. But I have built something to my needs. I also have...

    Should it be legal....?

In the grand scheme of things cyclists of all natures don't cause that many accidents anyway. Let alone ebikes. As long as your not making a 50mph downhill beast to run round the city on you'd be ok. Why also would they be bothered when the cycling community is so small. And the ebike...

    Should it be legal....?

The ratings on the motor are a crock of **** anyway. The way most electrical systems work they all use over the rated amount. If they didn't everyone here with a legal spec 250w would be moaning there all useless and don't provide enough help up hills. Speed is the main issue and the type of...

    Hardwiring a Torch light

Wow impressive. Glad I revisited thus old thread and now have some pretty decent info! Thanks for your tinkering. I do get more than30mins on high but after that you cab see it getting dimmer. That's with the 3000mah ultrafire cell. However the pack I've bodged together should give high beam...

    Hardwiring a Torch light

Also thought I can use this in about 6months time when I go to download festival as a portable charger for my other single cell batteries. Like my phone since I'm sure they will charge it if I add tue correct connector. Failing that a small bomb if I get bored.

    Hardwiring a Torch light

Finally got around to putting the cells D8veh sent me. Bodged together all linked in parallel to create an 8 cell 3.7v nominal battery. I used very basic soldering skill and some braided wire to link the cells together. As they will perform like one larger cell I've not used any balance wires...

    120 million ebikes

Dave @ Kudo's I agree with you completly with the China aspects. There are some great suppliers there but digging them out can be a chore. I do alot of trips and the Canton fair for work in retail and come across not the same problems but similar in a different sector. We are a great...

    8fun kit performance

If you have a speedo you could try test how fast the no load speed is and report back. This should give us an indication of what the potential problem is. However I know having that controller on my 250w build that it wasn't enough. An I'm 26 and fairly fit. To the point where the added...

    120 million ebikes

Also the uk infrastructure is nit the most bike friendly and the main preferred mode of transport is the car. Bikes will not take over unfortunately no matter how cheap or reliable they may be.

    8fun kit performance

Same controller as my old kit. Best to add some solder to the shunt to help it up to 15-17amp. An as d8veh says check the speed wire loop. I would suspect it's the low amp controller not dishing out enough power for your needs.

My battery lost 1/3 of its capacity

Best to keep the battery indoors or least somewhere warmer if you need the additional capacity. And only put it on the bike when it's in use.

    Heated Gloves

I never really suffer from cold hands on the bike. Only since last week I switched from my Oakley MTB gloves to a pair of thick thinsulate fleece gloves. There oversized and i could wear my mtb glove inside them for added protection but don't. I like the idea of heated gloves / bars. I've...

    Rear wheel cassettes

I have shimano gear changers and derailers but changed to a higher speed sun race cassette and just re-adjusted the cables. Everything works fine. Its just I need a different set of tools to actually take the cassette off again. But there that cheap usually its not worth worrying about. I...

    Replacement Battery Prices

I'm with Flecc on the Lipo. It really doesn't have a place. For that it would be comparing cell by cell. Or bare 18650 cells. Very good chart though and gives out some interesting figures that are useful. More suprised at the ping batteries being quite good value. Although they also don't...

Marin Full Suspension with Alien Kit

Bikes 2nd hand are a great Market. You can get quite a bike 2nd hand that someone's brought and hardly used because they've got a bit to much cash and then never get out on it. Like d8veh said you can hunt round and get some right bargains!

E Bike Rider of the year nominations (2011)

I nominate Alan ! Aka kitchenman for his wacky adventures, crashes and general positivity towards everything. I personally love the time he went to lean on a post. Apart from it was plastic and it fell with his weight. Possibly one of the funniest things I've seen here.

Wisper rear Bafang and front Dapu motors.....

Drag on front motors is also more noticeable than rear motors I've found. Also more noticeable on road tires than MTB ones due to the extra rolling resistance of MTB tires

Almost joined the 50mph club, 49.28!

Yeah I can imagine it would feel a bit scary. Past 30mph my bike feels fine. But god knows what it would be like at those speeds. Scared incase I'd fall off. The slide on my crash was 25mph and had enough bruises and grazes. Maybe I should put some motorcycle gear on before attempting it ;-)

Hmm this now seems like a challenge. I don't have the gearing or the hills though...
