Bosch made the VW emission cheating dongle.

No, I've never had to fiddle with anything to get through the annual MOT. I've had it for 15 years, and although its needed the occasional brake pads or exhaust, it's always sailed through the emissions tests. Because of its age, it's only banded as a > 1549cc, which equates in tax fee to...

Bosch made the VW emission cheating dongle.

It's a relief to know that my 20 year old VW T4 diesel campervan has no software ! Just a good old fashioned mechanical diesel pump and mechanical injectors. It still gives good mileage though, around 35mpg, from a 2.5 litre diesel, in a two and half ton motor caravan body.

    27.2 seatpost in a 26.8 seat tube

If it was me I'd much rather emery the seat post than the inside of the frame tube. As well as leaving the frame tube unaltered, I would find it easier to consistently remove material from the outside surface of the alloy seat post than the inside surface of the steel seat tube. Although your...

A legend reborn, complete with weird rubbery keyboard :)

They're already being discounted on ebuyer: http://www.ebuyer.com/708786-recreated-zx-spectrum-kyb-zxspectrumbt If anyone feels the need to relive that era, then there's plenty of free Spectrum emulators that run on PCs, together with almost every game for them...

    Trike conversion?

Yes, agreed, the retail price of Hase trikes makes your eyes water. :( They do come up secondhand occasionally though, I got mine for around £400. If you do go for a DIY conversion on a trike, most of them have 20" wheels, so it's important to make sure the motor revs high enough to give a...

    Trike conversion?

I can't help with any knowledge about converting a bike into a trike, but I've had quite a bit of experience with ready made trikes, and I've tried three, as well as being an anorak for ordinary bikes and ebikes. I had one conventional upright, and two recumbents. The upright was an old TGA...

    Bottle Carrier

I thought maybe I'd misread something on here when bottled water suddenly entered the equation. Like Plas just said, good old tap water for me too. In fact I've never bought bottled water in my life.

    Bottle Carrier

I have a bottle carrier on all of my bikes, electric and non-electric. My average ride is about 20 miles, at a leisurely pace, and I always take, (and drink) a bottle full of water. Clean water is one of the few substances that we can pour into our bodies with no negative effect, (as far as...

    You got a moped!

Yep, I agree with many of the ideas so far, the top box, the bulky battery pack, and the exposed large hub motor are what makes it look less like a bike. I think you'd need to lose the top box and lower the panniers so that they hide the large hub, and fit the batteries in them. The weight...

Here is my experience with BMS Battery

Just a follow up to my previous post, my order from BMS has now arrived, in just under two weeks overall. Two packages, sent by Fedex, containing a controller, rim, motor and misc other small parts, all exactly as ordered. I'll still no doubt get clobbered by the subsequent Fedex invoice for...

    You got a moped!

Coincidentally, I had a moped that looked like a bike...... :) (Especially from the left hand side). It was a Dutch "Spartamet", very popular over there. In the UK though, it needed an annual MOT (£30), road tax (£17), and insurance (£80). We're so lucky that electric bikes were invented and...

    Remove stuck bottom bracket

That is perfectly logical CWAH, it seems like the right way, but as others have replied, it's actually the opposite. The loosening forces are reversed because the bottom bracket is a roller bearing, rather than just a thread. I used to have a job betting my head round it, something called...

    Remove stuck bottom bracket

I thought that too from CWAH's opening post picture, but in the text he did say "The picture isn't correct, I'm doing it on the non drive side anti-clockwise...", so it sounds as though he is trying to loosen it the right way.

    Spokes for BMS 26" rim w/CST 500W

After helpful encouragement from d8veh, I built my first wheel from scratch, using a Q100h front hub motor and an existing double wall 700c rim that I had. http://pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/switched-from-swxb-to-q100h.19102/#post-239345 I tried using the BMS 13g spokes that I'd bought with...

    Attitudes to ebikes.

I agree with the thought that ebikes are now much more common than a few years ago, so the chances of being harangued by a lycra hero are much less. Even then, it was only a minority of egotistic riders. Most appreciated the camaraderie of seeing a fellow "cyclist", albeit one that was...

    Vectrix VX1 - Scooter

There's an interesting page on the "a to b" cycling website about electric motorbike and scooter laws in the UK. It makes particular reference to the Vectrix VX1, which is then qualified by a user response at the bottom of the page...

    Vectrix VX1 - Scooter

Yes, quite right, the way with most chance of success for a quick pass is via a "package deal" with a motorcycle training course provider, because they can supply the most suitable bikes for the test, (125cc, and with enough acceleration to meet the swerve criteria). If you're going to that...

    Vectrix VX1 - Scooter

I'm afraid that passenger carrying is not permitted under just the CBT. You would need a full motorcycle license pass to carry one legally. http://www.passmasters.co.uk/cbt I went through all this about three years ago, when I fancied a 125cc scooter. Even though I've been driving a car here...

    Remove stuck bottom bracket

Yes, true, though I've found that these modern multi splined fittings don't tend to jump out if they've not been allowed to skip much already, (as long as you're using the impact method, rather than a steady strain.) I googled around for ideas to the problem and found this one with quite good...
