Silly me cable and deraileur are both on the same side, comes of looking at the bike upside down !!

What is the best way to attach a trialer to a rear wheel powered bike. Most fittings seem to feature a bracket on the end of the axle, with the wisper I have the motor cable on one end of the axle and the deraileur on the other; is it possible to clamp onto the frame tubes?
