    DIY Halogen Lights

Hi, I started this thread some time ago, got sent abroad, lost half the bits, got distracted etc. However I have now made the lights. I am reasonably happy with the lights but they do have a touch of Blue Peter to them. They need some better waterproofing. I am currently testing them. The...

    Tongxin Information

Hi, tried to send you another PM but your inbox is full. Can you let me know the delivery costs to mainland UK (Somerset) and how you would like to recieve payment. PayPal works well for me. It will be the 175 rpm I'm after. Also, is it a twist if thumb throttle? I will not be in a...

false economy or investment for the future (of everything)?

There is no public transport option for me. The closest bus stop is 4 miles away :( So cycle or drive for me. At the moment I am cycling one day a week. That is 44 miles not put on the car but I'm sure I'm eating more for the calories burnt.

    Tongxin Information

I am hoping the controller is a more reliable now. I see the Cytronex uses the Tongxin controller and that has been reliable. Fingers crossed.... But anyway, the TongXin is the only motor I would consider for the positive reasons you have stated, low resistence. I want to ride the bike...

    Tongxin Information

Thank you. Also, another silly question. It looks like there are 3 types of controller for different modes of operation: Complete auto. Semi-auto. Pedelec only. I wonder what type are on order? I am guessing and hoping for the fully automatic ones? BM

Spoke length Anybody got any idea on the spoke length needed to fit the TongXin into a 700c rim? And if so, where the best places to get them are? My local bike shop is happy to make up a wheel, just concerned that the correct spokes might be hard to source. Also, while on the subject...

    Disc brake compatible hub motors

Now this is interesting.... The new Wisper kit is using a new motor. I appreciate that there are lots of details you can't share at the moment but.... Will the motor be more free-wheeling than the current offering? At present I have ruled out anything other than a TongXin motor for this...

    "Electric, That's Cheating!"

Yeah, I agree. It should not be a them and us thing. Cyclists should stick together. I would rather not have to use a motor because it is a pain and expensive. I would rather be fit enough to cycle to work every day and hopefully I will be in some months time. But maybe I am the enemy because I...

Any reliable electric kits at all ?

I beleive that Cytronex are planning a kit in the new year based on the same technology as thier complete bikes. No price or date info, the hope is for January but this is certainly not a confirmed date. The date for the new bikes is also hopefully Jan and I think more likely. I get the...

    Anti rust chain - why?

Anti-rust chains are for people like me :D Did not use my Dawes Horizon for about 14 years. Dug it out a couple of months ago and the chain is still in good condition. In fact the whole bike is and thats after it being dumped in a damp garage. Tyres were perished.... must change those as a...

    My Tongxin kit bike

I think the Tongxin is the only way to go for me as the free running motor makes sense for my riding. The only bikes with these that I know of are the Cytronex, not currently availiable in most frame sizes and not availiable through CycleScheme and the not yet released Infineum. So, I will...

    Back wheel wobble

Maybe a silly question but is your inner tube the correct size. I bought a mountain bike secondhand and had trouble with tyres. I swapped them with road tyres in the end but I beleive the issue was that the tyres were 1.95inches wide whereas the tubes were only good for upto 1.75 inches wide...

    Wisper battery life

I had just convinced myself to buy the Alien kit, just waiting for the next pay packet. Unfortunately Alien has switched back to 110mm width hubs instead of the 100mm they were using for a bit. My forks are at 100mm. They are aluminium, not steel, so bending then is not easy. I have given up on...

    Bicycle brakes

Can't really answer your question, however most touring bikes use rim brakes of some description. The main reason being that namy disc brakes foul racks and panniers. I think in theory that discs allow for a larger surface area for the pads. However, I have used rim brakes that have been...

Every cloud has a silver lining. At least if I'm going slow I can warm my hands up in the winter.

    cycle show

My commute in the car takes about an hour and on a pushie takes an hour 20. Not sure I will cut that much on an ebike. Takes me an hour 50 on the way bike and I am knakered. Hoping an ebike will help a bit here. On the cost front, I think some of the figures are a bit missleading. Batteries...

    Wisper battery life

OK, maybe the 905se has a higher gearing, that would explain the extra range. On the 6mph topic, presumably if I can manage a sustained 6mph on the steep hills under my own steam, I am guessing that, providing I get to crank up the throttle early enough so as not to lose too much momentum, the...

    Wisper battery life

FLECC I can undertsand the gearing bit. My understanding is that most hub motors produce the most torque at about 8mph and highest efficiency near thier top end, say 15mph. I can get my pushie up my steepest hills at 6mph so with some motor input reaching 8mph should be fine. Still, I am...
