    TongXin (a.k.a. Nano) motor project

For thise of you with a Tongxin and on the question of the Tongxin motor drag, what constitutes near zero? I now have tongxin (not yet in a wheel) and I am surprised by the resistance turning it by hand? Almost appears to be turning the motor? I don't yet have a battery so can't try with power...

    Advice please...

Hi, I am in a similar situation with a hilly 21 mile each way commute. At the moment I am struggling under pedal power 2 days a week and finding it quite tough, especially when there is a strong headwind. An option it you are prepared to put in a fair degree of effort is a Cytronex and I know I...

    Solar gets closer

Yes, you are quite correct, 300m. It serves as a very good beacon to guide me home. I only live about 3 miles from it :) Good TV reception as well. Pig of a hill to cycle up mind, want an ebike soon. BM

    Solar gets closer

Well, if I ever get an ebike (and I hope I do soon as it is getting hard work in the windy winter conditions) then I will rechgarge at work ;) But I know that the economics should not be the main driving force. Electrical solar power has a long way to go on a bang for buck basis in my...

    Cold

Well, that was my point exactly. Never had a problem with a cold head, just cold hands. Now I know I am a soft southener but when it gets cold I go for my hat. Reason being that hardships are one thing, seriously cold hands can be just plain dangerous. BM.

    Cold

The hat thing took me by surprise. I thought my core body temperature was well up as I marched up monroes kicking steps breaking into sweat. The last thing I wanted to do was to wear a nasty itchy hat or even worse a balaclava. I remember on one occassion where I had borrowed a set of crampons...

    Cold

I'm not getting cold hands cycling but used to do a lot of winter walking and suffered terribly with cold hands for years. I tried all sorts of gloves and mittens but nothing worked. And then somebody told me to try something and it worked really well... ... ... ... Put a hat on. Solved...

    Getting a wheel built...

My local bike shop wanted about £20 for the labour. £60 all in (with you providing the motor of course) should be about right I think. BM

    Cold

The Aldi stuff is working well for me as well. I am getting cold feet though. I have about 21 miles each way and I find the second half is where I get cold - last trip was 0c when I got home and thick fog. I think I am getting too tired and too slow. But a big thumbs up to Aldi. I am especially...

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was thinking of changing the bars to: Modolo Yuma Traveller Multi position Hybrid bars I could even go for straight bars but would need a longer stem. Not too sure yet. As for the throttle, I was planning to use a switch or 2 and not have a permanent...

    Tongxin Information

I am planning on collecting a motor on Saturday from John. Might be a while before I have it built into a bike as I need to get a wheel built and get a battery from Ping. Also, is meant to be a birthday present from the misses and it is not my birthday yet. I will be putting a 175rpm motor...

    LED versus Halogen lights

Sorry Mussels but I think you are over simplifying this somewhat. Have a read of the following thread where people who know far more about this thanI do explain in detail: Bike Light: LED vs. Halogen - CandlePowerForums You will also notice that high power LED setups have very complex...

    LED versus Halogen lights

I am using 2 7.2v 4.5ah remote control car racing packs wired in series. These will just about fit in a drinks bottle and then placed in water bottle cage. To get down to 13.2v (overvolting) or various other voltages I am using a regulator. There are quite a few 6v MR11 bulbs that will run...

    LED versus Halogen lights

I think a good halogen setup will certainly give LEDs a run for thier money. Overvolted halogen is as efficient as LEDs with a carefull choice of bulb and it is much easier to focus. While many don't like the yellow of halogen it is actually better under certain conditions. I am using 1 x 20w...

    Drop bars and brake levers

Hi, Another stupid question…. So, if I can get hold of a TongXin motor I will soon be building my ebike. My bike at the moment has drop bars and cantilever brakes and I am happy with this setup. I can’t find levers with cutouts that will work with drop bars as I need hoods. Maybe I can put...

Cycling on Pavements - Is it really that bad?

Well, there are no pavements near me at all so not a decison I need to make. However, the state of the roads leaves something to be desired. The main issue is resurfaced roads where the standing water drains have not been raised. Many are 3 to 4 inches below the road surface. At best these...

    More battery supplier questions...

Hi, thanks for the super quick reply. That is a real option, I will give it some serious thought. As the battery is already in a waterproof case it might be a good option. I beleive the power out is via a kettle type socket isn't it? If so that would be very easy to hook up as I have a cupboard...

    More battery supplier questions...

Hi, I know Ping’s batteries are highly regarded. Has anybody had any success with any of the other suppliers and if so which ones? I’m expecting to go with Ping but thought I at least ought to shop about a bit. I am looking for about 10ah or 12ah at 36v I think. I am thinking this will get me...
