    Helmets @ Aldi

Many years ago before helmets became compulsorily in the UK I rode motorbikes, and I even hit a lamppost when I was sixteen on my first bike within the first few weeks - long before the days of off road competence testing - wearing a flat hat back to front. I bought a helmet for my next bike…...

    Helmets @ Aldi

So it was post four and not post three. He made a tongue in cheek comment and you bit as he probably knew you would. I haven’t seen anyone on this thread apart from Lardo advocating compulsion, and as I wrote above I would strongly oppose that. But the stuff above about the people pretending to...

    Helmets @ Aldi

Aren’t you knocking down a straw man there? No one here has suggested making helmets compulsory and I would oppose that if if was put forward. In fact this thread started as an inoffensive heads up for Aldi helmets and was then derailed by flecc on post three who was riding one of his hobby...

No, but you can run out of luck in a heartbeat.

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

The law in the UK is different and you have to be seventeen to ride a powered bike in a public place. It used to be sixteen in my day. You can ride an e bike at over fourteen but I doubt you could ride one of these at that age.

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

I’m sure it would appeal to some. The person who wants cheap transport for instance. But the regulation requirement might be a drawback. It seems to me that a lot of people buy e bikes when they lose their driving licence. But they would need a licence to ride one of these I assume. There is a...

A salutary and life changing event for both parties

Drivers have had problems claiming when the car didn’t have a valid MOT though. It’s not so much the use it’s put to as whether it’s on the road illegally.

A salutary and life changing event for both parties

Most household insurance will cover it if no other insurance is covering the same risk.

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

In the case of a bike with a pedal lag though, if as seems likely manufactures sell bikes with throttles capable of letting the rider make hill starts it would be impossible to show that they were being used illegally. As long as the pedals were used at the same time. Even in a hypothetical case...

What do you think this is worth?

I think so too. Not sure it was a great time to sell it. But having said that some other items on eBay in fields I am interested in are fetching no money at all right now. Just before Christmas and a real economy at ground level not in great shape I imagine.

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

So throttle assist for take off on hills up to 6 kph would be legal as long as with say, a rotation sensor bike with a lag, the rider pedalled as he throttled?

What do you think this is worth?

I think Tilson bought one of the many Panasonic batteries that German eBay has listed at a good price a little while ago too. I think they may be pattern. He said he was pleased with it.

What do you think this is worth?

Did you sell it here or somewhere else? ThiefBay for all its crap and rip off fees still reaches many many potential buyers and prices are higher there for some things. Particularly brands, and Kalkhoff is a known brand.

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

I may be wrong but the thread I referred to in my other post seemed to indicate that in the UK they would be subject to the same law which allows powered pedestrian controlled vehicles. They can travel at up to 4 mph but must be controlled by walking with them and must not be ridden on.

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

Do they put any kind of throttle on bikes for the German market? My Kalkhoff has a walk assist button, but the manual warns against anyone trying to use it as a take off assist while mounted as it isn’t up to that. In fact strictly speaking I thought all the 6 kph throttles allowed next year...

    New tyres. Cool or weird?

White tyres don’t half show the dirt though. I’ve had white wall tyres on a few bikes, and I used to wash my father’s car with white wall tyres when I was a kid, and getting them clean was a bugger. Particularly when you get oil or road tar on them.

    Helmets @ Aldi

You tend not to get so hot with a pedelec so that much ventilation isn’t needed either. In winter it can be a positive drawback too. I use a BMX/skateboard type helmet now, and although I used to wear the trad cycle helmet, and needed the ventilation on my road bikes, I always thought they were...

What should I buy as my first e bike?

I think there are some good deals around now. So you could buy it and even ride it to work once or twice before you changed jobs.

Been reported for Riding without a license and no insurance

Not a bad idea. Something like I recommended to him before. Something in big lettering that they can see.

Anyone bought from these sellers or this product (Battery)

That seems a bit incompetent. I thought all those places knew you can’t do that.
