Oh yes, library louts - that wretched bunch of Virgil antis. :D

    Highway code changes

Thanks for the info. I was looking on the official site, but the changes don't seem to be on there yet: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code

    Highway code changes

Apparently the new "bike friendly" changes to the Highway code come in today, but I can't see anything about it on the BBC website. I'm surprised there hasn't been an article about it on here. Does anyone have a good link to the changes?

    Schottky Diode Parallel Pack Adaptor

Here is the circuit diagram for the ideal diode set up: The wire from the ideal diode to ground does not need to be thick wire like anode/cathode and battery negative wire. It just has to carry a tiny current to allow the ideal diode to function properly.

    Parallel batteries (again!)

Yak, have a look here, I've updated the thread... https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/schottky-diode-parallel-pack-adaptor.38760/page-2

    Schottky Diode Parallel Pack Adaptor

This is the pin that needs grounding: These ideal diodes are pretty good, but there are even better ones out there which use a MOSFET with an even lower RDS on and are even more efficient.

    Schottky Diode Parallel Pack Adaptor

Hi Yak, Sorry not been on the forum so much these days. Yes, they work really well. However, you do need to connect the IC circuit to ground, which is not obvious and there are no instructions from eBay or the suppliers. If you do not do this, they act as a standard diode and get very hot.

    Bicycles to pay road tax

    Bicycles to pay road tax

I imagine what they will do is have a tapered tariff. So up to so many kWh/day is at standard rate, then above that it is charged at a higher rate.

    MET police at it again...

Saw this and I assume they took exception to the >250W motor, no comment about the genny on the back, but it must have attracted attention.

    Bicycles to pay road tax

There is no such thing as road tax, it was abolished in 1937. Roads are funded from general taxation, so every household in the UK pays over £2000 per year to fund the roads, whether they own a car or not. Vehicle Excise Duty is basically a licence to pollute. The more you pollute the more you...

    Dc-dc off grid chargers

If using a DC/DC converter for battery charging, it's important to set the constant current control (CC) to a suitable level for your battery pack. If it is set too high, it could do damage. Typically, (as VFR says) for a 10 to 15Ah/36V pack two to three amps is a good target. When the converter...

Interesting stuff. Here are some links I found that people might find useful: https://www.sevarg.net/2015/05/16/sunkko-788-welder-failure-and-repair/ https://georgehobby.wordpress.com/2016/11/09/diy-arduino-based-simple-spot-welder/ https://georgehobby.wordpress.com/2018/01/27/maxweldv2/

What do you use for cell welding?

I bought a Sunko 737 welder, and I used it to build a few packs, but it is not at all safe and reliable. It relies on a 20A fuse in the 13A plug (with a mains cable probably rated at 10A) and after every 30 or 40 welds, it will blow that 20A fuse. It can also only be used in houses that don't...

    Schottky Diode Parallel Pack Adaptor

Just bought a couple of these: Looks like it is based on the 4357 ideal diode chip, driving a power MOSFET: https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/4357fd.pdf I'll try it out and report back.
