    Some 18650 fun!

I had the occasion to rummage around in my PC parts box this week and besides a nifty heat sink for my controller project I found a laptop battery for my 18 year old Sony Vaio!!! Now these are not the original batteries, I sold those to a German guy years ago, he wanted to re-cell them...

    For all you sailors

http://northman.pl/en/jachty/maxus-22-2/ A Polish chap just finished a single handed, non stop round the world on one of those (no motor, no assistance of course) in 271 days. I think he deserves a generous round of applause and personally I bow before his courage and great skill!

    Statistics

"More than 250,000 bikes have been stolen in the UK in the past three years – one every six minutes – according to new figures from insurer Direct Line. Theft levels now are about 17% higher than three years ago, it said, with east London the centre of bike crime." from...

    Road testing overvolted KT controller

I have been using a 12S (44.4v nominative) battery for a while now around town, today was the first real world test and the 15 A 36v KT controller failed this test... Usual road to Hendaye, 12.7 km to the factory where SWMBO works: On the way (above image) all went well until the main hill...

    Parallel battery and Bosch CX

I know that Bosch have a 2 battery system, this is a "what if?" question: Can I cut the power lead from a Bosch battery, splice in a parallel connector and plug in a non Bosch 36v battery? Why? The idea is to go beyond the 1kW maximum on a cargo bike.

    Derailleur with 65 mm chainline

I have brought this subject up before and the solution to the offset is a problem savers direct high mount adaptor. All well and good but there isn't to my knowledge a direct mount front derailleur which accepts a 48 tooth (or 50 tooth) chainwheel. It only needs to be capable of a 16 tooth...

S12S 500W Torque Simulation Sine Wave Controller

I am going to get one of these, I know it is big but I have the luxury of sufficient space to tuck it away. Quick question: Is there enough room inside to tuck away the unwanted wires (speed sensor, throttle...)?

    I'm bent!

After riding upright for over 50 years I decided my backside needed a break, borrowed [new feature] some money and ordered a AZUB T-Tris 26 which was delivered yesterday. Built it and after almost calling it a day because of a missing light holder in my parts box managed to get out for a quick...

Gradients, are we talking about the same thing?

Often here I read "20% hill" and think to myself that is bonkers so then looked it up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_(slope) OK so lets apply to the terrain. This is a tough hill to walk up. It is tough to ride up too because there is no run in possible so you have to start from a standing...

    Stupid controller question..

I have been scratching my head over the choice of controllers at BMSB, I want a 36/48 V controller I can use with a 12S battery and 17 Amps suits me fine. I think the S12S 25A sine wave controller looks just right if I set C5 (limit current value) to 04. That should give me 16.666 Amps maximum...

    Freewheel market research

I am waiting on a special low stack height 8 speed 11-32 DNP Epoch freewheel from Taiwan. This will allow motors such as my Mxus XF08 to drop into a standard 135 mm dropout without needing any stretching. This freewheel will use 2.6 mm spacers (instead of 3.1 mm) and so will require a 9 speed...

    Open slot torque "arm"

I have been wondering about making rear hub motor wheels easier to remove. My current idea is a custom made SS torque plate with an open slot corresponding to the dropout slot (a bit longer of course). Thicker than the average torque arm but with a reserve machined out for the axle nut and slot...
