Make sure you are in a low enough gear to keep the motor spinning fast.
Too slow a speed will cause cogging which may be the ratcheting sound you are hearing.
I carry a spare chain and a splitter along with patches,a spare inner tube and some Co2 canisters(and a small pump).
Also carry insulating tape,spare xt90s etc.
Over the past 3 years I have only used one patch so far.

I have used Clarks Exo skeletal brakes on a couple of my builds and they are spot on and dirt cheap.
They only require 11mm between disc and hub motor and were the only ones that would fit my Dillenger 1000 watt front hub.
If they are charged to 3.8 and its the only one to drop then it is a weak cell but personally I would still use it but put a cell alarm on that battery set to 3.6V so it does not get too low and cause problems...
