Most legal bikes have a motor rated as 250 watts but they can actually have a far higher peak power. So no significant advantage there. Speed limit has some disadvantages as they could all easily run at 20 mph on the flat. Any unrestricted bike with an 250 watt plus rated motor is illegal to use...

Tabs there is no need to go illegal. A legal kit can make you one of the faster cyclists on the road. Even limited it helps you accelerate away from lights and up hills leaving you with more spare umph to cruse n the flat and fly down hills. So much so I would say any bike needs disk brakes. Min...

10s 16ah plus connectors cost me £110 but it's only 10c so I can't run over 160amps :eek:. I think my motor is set for around 14 amp anyway so I don't expect to much battery sag

There are a lot of decent bikes. You need to test ride and test ride again. Remember to also test with the motor off. That tells you how good the bike is. If it's easy to pedal unpowered then the assist just has tohelp you, max range. If it's a pig the motor has to work hard just to shift it...

I have 46 or 48 on the front with 16 on the rear with a 26' wheel. I haven't spun out at 35mph and I can still climb 6% hill in third.

Oxygen are well liked here. Good kit for self build. Bikes are ok without any major issues I can remember. Much cheaper than the bosh builds without the threads saying its bust and will cost more to fix than .....

If it's a moped which a 500watt bike is classed as you can have the book thrown at you. This could include drunk driving if you have had a drink before cycling, as some use the bike for pub runs! It's not obvious but the road tires will reduce wasted energy so you go faster or further for the same effort. I should be a small effect unless the old tires are really bad.

It's an of road switch that makes it illegal. Reprogramming is also illegal. The ability to reprogram isn't. If it's sold as a legal kit without a switch its legal. Defeating the limiter makes it illegal like a dongle. Having a 1000watt motor is automatically illegal. Having a 250watt rated...

Remember the 500 watt kit is illegal. Plenty of 250 watt kits around and they can give you 15 mph easy.
