Folding electric - Wisper 806 or Brompton?

I ride 10.25miles a day round commute on my 16" wheeled Brompton :p Whilst I think your offering has its application for maybe motohomes/caravans/boots of cars etc, I think lugging a 18kg bike on an off busy commuting trains or on the London underground just would not work. Regards Jerry

Continuing from a previous topic about Headway LiFePO4 cells

Alban why do you want to do them in parallel at the same time ? With my A123s I have two 6s1p packs which I connect in series for my bike. Mostly I bulk charge them like this. I check the balance occasionally using a cellog meter and if need be split the pack down into its two 6s1p packs and...

Folding electric - Wisper 806 or Brompton?

If Ben is interested then I am happy for him to pm me. The battery required is 36v. I have a few battery options and a spare wheel with motor etc if he is interested. I am also sure if he wished we could set something up so he could use his existing battery. I probably should not have put...

Folding electric - Wisper 806 or Brompton?

Thanks. The only caveat I would make is that you would probably need a bigger battery than my small 2.3Ah 1kg one. I would still try and keep the battery weight down as low as possible as this all adds to the overall carried weight when hopping on and off trains. Regards Jerry

Cyclemaster "Petrol" Hub Motor Anyone ?

Thanks for the info Tony. I was not really thinking of buying one just find them interesting given what my day told me about them. I think his was a larger motor i.e about 49cc as he said it would do 25mph +. Regards Jerry

Selling a used ebike isn't easy!

Unless a product is highly desirable/brand new unused etc in my experience of selling or buying provided it is in good condition you are usually looking at around 50% of the cost of it new. A bit of a generalisation I know but its what I have found. I agree the real concern will be the state of...

Cyclemaster "Petrol" Hub Motor Anyone ?

These units facinate me  My dad tells me about them every time he sees my bikes and how he rode his for hundreds of miles. If I had the time I would seriously consider getting it. Ebay link here I think this is a picture of the same one fitted. I am sure flecc will chip in. A couple...

Folding electric - Wisper 806 or Brompton?

An EBrompton could still meet the requirement if you carried a decent sized battery to suit. The Brompton will allow you to split the weight between bike and bag. Some train officials give you hassle even when you carry 20" folders. The 20" folding electrics are no where near as compact as 16"...

    Freedom Ebikes Brompton kit installation

Richard great write up. I have the same setup on my Brompton. You pretty much experienced all the same issues that we did when we did our conversions. Mine was all done DIY ordering the motor from China direct from that supplier. I had to build the wheel myself and used a Brompton rim with...

Folding electric - Wisper 806 or Brompton?

Agreed 1. and 2. are mutually exclusive. If you require to easily take an efolder on and off a train the Brompton (with a light conversion) really is your only choice. Regards Jerry

New Super Light Tongxin Motor Design/Kit

Excellent find! Did you ask for details of the the weight ? If you get one you can test that too and hopefully it will give all us small wheel bikers more options. PS Yes Frank someone pmed me about that one but look at the weight  Regards Jerry

Continuing from a previous topic about Headway LiFePO4 cells

Whilst some caution is advisable, LiFePO4 chemistry is inherently safe and these batteries will NOT explode. In fact I think Headway cells actually have built in venting ? If this was the case then when a BMS failed the result would be similar. If anything, more caution would be advised when...

Continuing from a previous topic about Headway LiFePO4 cells

Excellent post for others to follow if they wish. Thanks for taking the trouble to explain it all. For bulk charging would it not just be possible to use a generic ebike lead acid (cc/cv) charger like I do for my A123 packs, but maybe one with a higher charging current. Mine is 1.6A so it would...

New Super Light Tongxin Motor Design/Kit

On the flat it will do whatever speed its RPM is rated for, given the size of wheel rim used. For me I use a 260RPM unit in 16" and 20" rims so that is 15mph and 16.5mph respectively. BTW Nigel welcome to the forum I think I recognise you from the Brompton or Moulton forums. Regards...

    AFFORDABLE 15 Ah BATTERY

Yep I made a mistake of not matching the charged capacity of this cell with the others and destroyed it in the process. I then replaced it again and have been running it fine for about six months since I changed it. The pack is about 28 months old now with about 700 charge cycles on it. PS...
