    On/Off Switch

I was going to fit a thumb throttle with the big red on/off switch but it is big has battery LEDs and looks ugly on my Moulton with just a plain thumb throttle. I need a kill switch as there is no cutout brake. I have now fitted a smaller throttle only controller like on my Brompton. So...

Folding bike / Bionx advice please

IMHO I still think adding a heavy motor and battery total 5-8Kg+ to a lightweight sporty folding bike is crazy, unless of course portability is not required. PS. In this application 39.6v, 2.3Ah, 1kg battery £80 (88p.W/h). Only ride and carry what you need i.e add batteries to increase range...

Thinking Of Not Fitting The Brake Switches ?

That was a nice build and neat integration idea for the cutoff switch Amigafan. I must have missed that one. I use cutoff brakes on my daily commute Brompton but just a cuttoff switch on my Moulton. It only has one brake anyway as the rear is a back pedal brake. Regards Jerry

    Dahon Folder

I use smaller width 83mm rather than 100mm hubs. All the details are in my build threads. The first time I did it though I did have to spread them further before I got one of the smaller width hubs which makes it much easier. I would only spread them this much (from 75mm to 100mm+) if they...

    Tom's BEAST - 9,000 watt DH Bike

I really don't care what people want to ride, its up to them. If they choose to ride power machines on pedestrian paths or anywhere without taking the appropriate saftey measures, then either the law or natural selection will get them. I can also see the the potential risk it may pose to...

Folding bike / Bionx advice please

BTW Tom, If your Dahon has one of the front lugs welded on up front (not all seem to have this) then you can use a bag to attach the controller/battery as I do with my Brompton. Regards Jerry

Folding bike / Bionx advice please

Tom, The DIY battery builds are not hard given that you can now buy the packs ready made. Facilities to analyse the battery performance are available. Probably best to read through my build threads as its all in there. There is a lot to digest. The main lessons learnt and the latest updates...

    Spokes

I tend to build smaller wheels/e-wheels (20" and less) and the tension in those is about the same as any other stock small wheels I have checked. I fully agree with Alan (but then he has taught me a lot already lol) its important to get the tensions consistent across the wheel. You can have a...

A DIY Tongxin kit, adds total of 3kg incl battery depending on the range you need :p Flickr set. PS Tom what will be your average length of trip and what is the terrain like ? For a lightweight folder I am not sure you can do much better than a Tongxin kit with a small A123 battery pack, if...

    Brompton electrification

You are very welcome in terms of the pictures. However you miss the point completely. It may be a language problem or just that I am an old cautious fart and you are young. My intention is NOT to allow you to ride safely on your Brompton, assisted to 30 mph as I believe that is not possible...

    Brompton electrification

Ok cwah I think it is now time to take stock :( These are my thoughts. It will probably be ok and work with the above if you keep everything at 36v, don't over volt it and restrict assistance to 15mph. This is with the caveat that you're carrying a lot of extra weight in the rear triangle and...
