E-bike or E-mtb. What am I not understanding?

HI and welcome.. Its a bit more complex.. but essentially yes a lot of the same motors are found on ebikes and emtbs. certain motors will be used by brands that will hold you to exclusive service/repair/maintenance contracts with dealers though. pretty much the same motors but you just get to...

Looking for a decent ebike to buy, on a bit of a 'budget'

ALL the Hints are above. For max power capacity buy a 'slow' 36v motor, supply it with power from a 48v battery and control system. KT (Ketung?) brand controllers are popular and topbike kit are a far east seller with a good rep in here. KT controllers provide ability to configure features...

Looking for a decent ebike to buy, on a bit of a 'budget'

loosing your bike to a random plod check isnt the biggest risk. Would you advise anyone you like even a little bit, to hop on a moped for daily use without an mot tax or insurance? Just like driving a motor vehicle thats dodgy if involved in any sort of incident with a 3rd party, if ridding a...

fitting and trueing spokes in a new rim is a doddle if your methodical about it, getting the right spoke size is the main hurdle, I got that wrong a few times so by the time the right size arrived I was well practiced and it took no time.. useing onlne spoke calculators might be a good idea...

Does anyone know how to unlock an ananda b5 controller?

Start from the beginning.. did all the aspects you mention come installed on your bike? or have you made changes to improve or fix an issue? if so what?.. Controllers and displays need to conform to the same communication protocols and formats, these can change from model to model and even...

Looking for a decent ebike to buy, on a bit of a 'budget'

+1 generally speaking the ebike hub motors readily available fall into 2 categories: Geared hub motors that can be found upto500w perhaps a 750w rating. Direct drive 750w+ motors, more speed at the cost of torque to climb with.

    Fiido d2s with d4s components

any thinner data wires Not the 2 x thicker gauge power wires from a battery to a controller would indicate a requirement for a battery /controller handshake similar to but infinitely more problematic than any display issues. Motors generally have 9x connections 3 x thicker phase power wires(...

    Fiido d2s with d4s components

I dunno, Probably ;) a half hearted google led me here which sells d2 and d4 motors but only pictures the d4 motor connecting wires which are not terminated in the familiar 9 pin socket ;( - Since you have the d2 bike can you see if the motor is connected with automotive sockets as pictures...

    Fiido d2s with d4s components

Hi and welcome, E-bike control systems have 'evolved' in a particular way. such that displays and controllers often share a specific communication protocol and format. This changes from brand to brand and differences can even crop up within bike brands and model lines. SO the rule of thumb is...

Looking for a decent ebike to buy, on a bit of a 'budget'

As an E-eng you should appreciate that V x A = Watts and if you apply a 48v battery (max voltage 54v) with a say 17A controller the motor would have close to 1000Watts to expend ;) and as its only the motors continuous rating thats limited by the regs , so such a system is totally legal (if...

Imho invest £4-500 on the latest amazon special eu/uk legal ebike of the style you prefer and see how that rides for a start.. IF you find it lacking in any way post in here with a basic generic "bolt on" system its a doddle to 'Plug n play' different controllers/batteries to provide the hub...

Mid-drive conversation kit for pulling heavy cargo bike

my limited experience is with hub drives only and with hub drives and separate controllers, over volting and over amping is just a shopping list of replacement components to bolt on and plug in, Mid drives however contain the controller pcb internally so your limited to software cracks to eek...

Yes to both, ( unless your bike has a perculiar BB and crank) BUT...... fwiw i upgraded my 7speed rear cassette to 8 speed when converting my bike, not a lot of hassle at the wheel end but the replacement 8 speed gear changer is a LOT stiffer than the original 7 speed, and i dont use the...

Mid-drive conversation kit for pulling heavy cargo bike

I agree with the above that in all but exceptional circumstances a bike that conforms with the regs can be configured for most situations. If determined for a mid drive solution a Woosh sourced TSDZ8 with its 250w stamp should provide ample power, Otherwise overvolting and overamping a 'slow'...
