    Chain line

Which way do you want to move the cassette and by how much? You can build custom cassettes from what you have now just by dismantling the cassette and removing the sprockets you don't want, then put spacers at one end to get your chainline right. Cassettes are usually held together by rivets or...

Cyclotricity 250w front hub kit: KT LED890 issues

Update: I played with all settings a lot and weirdly the actual cut-off speed never seemed to change, regardless of what the speedo was saying. I did manage to get the speedo to show an aproximation of mph speed but only when pedaling, when I stopped pedaling it would briefly drop to zero then...

    Help! Stretching dropout s

Actually simply don't do it to an aluminium frame, unless you are prepared to risk having it fail immediately or shortly after.

Cyclotricity 250w front hub kit: KT LED890 issues

Cut off speed seems unchanged. So if P2 has gone from 1 to 6 it would reduce speedo readout to 1/6 which seems to fit what I am seeing.

Cyclotricity 250w front hub kit: KT LED890 issues

Thanks will do, can also compare with the parameters on the identical kit on my other half's bike.

Cyclotricity 250w front hub kit: KT LED890 issues

Yes there is a setting, P2, for number of speed sensor pulses per revolution, I will try altering that. Range of settings is 0-6, I would say the speedo reading is more like 1/4 or even 1/6 of what it should be.

Cyclotricity 250w front hub kit: KT LED890 issues

Hi all, I recently fitted a Cyclotricity 250W front hub kit from Powerbikes on my touring bike (with PAS and not using throttle as it wont fit the drop bars) and all was fine until I tried using the instructions to alter speed limit and wheel size, as per this pdf on the Powerbikes website...

    Awful brakes on my ebike

Glad you found a straightforward solution that works for you, brakes are quite a personal thing IME, I like a well set-up v-brake, find even dual pivot calipers a bit lacking in power and cantilevers rather fiddly and inconsistent on the whole, though I do run one on the back of my touring bike...

    Awful brakes on my ebike

Interesting point- there has been a trend towards straight fork blades in recent years, which is contrary to the way things developed over the preceding 120 years, where curved blades became the norm. A straight blade may well have to bend a fair way forward to give 1cm vertical deflection, but...

    Awful brakes on my ebike

I missed the bit about changing brake levers earlier- I think this would depend on where you grip the bars most of the time: modern aero levers are more comfortable and give better braking from the hoods, but no real advantage when in the drops.

    Awful brakes on my ebike

Well I would like to point out that this is just your own experience, how a rim brake fork can flex depends on how it is designed and using what materials, whereas a disc brake fork absolutely has to be made stiff and strong enough to resist the very significant forces that the disc brake...

    Awful brakes on my ebike

You have a classic road bike with single pivot side pull caliper brakes, attached with traditional hex nuts rather than the modern design with recessed allen nuts. I do not think that a disc brake conversion would be a good idea in this case, even if you could find the right fork, as the fork...

Newby about to self build mid motor ebike

Hi Gaz, yes yet more bike building, its a good thing I enjoy it! Since last spring I have done the two uni bikes, my Alfine 11 Pompino and now this. As well as this I have to do some refurbishment of my tourer and my OH's non electric trekking bike, mainly wheel builds plus a lick of paint for...

Building an ebike for commute in Cornwall

Good value again, but vertical dropouts which mean a chain tensioner is needed to fit a hub gear- see the pic of the frame I have picked up for £40 inc postage from Germany, it has horizontal dropouts.

Building an ebike for commute in Cornwall

Now that is the kind of thing SWMBO has in mind, but I am interested in what the problem was with fitting the mid drive to the frame. The frame I was proposing to use has already been purchased from Ebay, not a bad price and it can always be used for something else if it does not work out...

Building an ebike for commute in Cornwall

Hi Mr Woosh, I have already perused your website, mainly looking at the mid drive kits. The used bike you posted previously is no doubt good value but is not what my OH is looking for, a step-through frame is a must. The Woosh Cruiser is a lot close as you say, but still has the hated derailleur...

Building an ebike for commute in Cornwall

OK well we are just going to have to politely disagree on the lighting issue as I have long since moved away from using inappropriate and dangerous front lights that do not have a beam cut off, I have used a Magicshine XTML T6 in the past and it was a PITA trying to avoid blinding oncoming...

Building an ebike for commute in Cornwall

I am completely new to ebikes so would appreciate advice on all aspects relating specifically to building up an ebike for my beloved to commute on, though I do have a fair bit of experience building, repairing and renovating non assisted bicycles, up to and including building wheels. My...

Newby about to self build mid motor ebike

Hi all, I am new to ebikes but I do have plenty of experience in building and restoring/repairing non assisted bicycles, e.g. recently I started building my own bicycle wheels which I find very satisfying. My beloved has requested that I build her an ebike to get to work on, so I will now pop...
