Finally bought a smaller folder for conversion...

Thanks d8veh, that's been really helpful! I think I'm decided on the Q100 then assuming the Q85 isn't available in rear version.. it's strange that, have you ever seen one? It's only 200g weight difference anyway and the Q100 is presumably more powerful yet no more expensive so it's a worthwhile...

Thanks Jerry :) I've been reading your first Brompton conversion thread with interest over the last few days and taking notes..all the related questions and answers has been very helpful as I have the same questions and face the same decisions.. I guess with small wheel bikes it's always a...

My bike will be arriving tomorrow or Thursday (hopefully in one piece as Parcel Farce are carrying it..cringe!) so if I have time I will post some pics and will do a test ride video, all being well. Having decided on rear hub I've been looking at motor options on GBK and BMS... Does anyone...

    green bike kit

I'm thinking of buying my next kit from GBK too. Interested to see how you get on. I heard they might be a break off from BMS Battery as they have similar products but better service according to some. 120 quid does seem a bit steep without a battery I assume? With a battery that's quite a...

DIY stage 1: received Bafang + Tongxin kits [photos]

The cheapest way to transfer money into a foreign currency overseas is using Post Office International Payments. They don't charge any fee its a free service, but they do make a profit on the currency exchange of course as they buy at better rates than retail. I find though, it works out like...

I reckon I can do it then, I used to be an electronic technician a long time ago and still dabble a bit, but I'm not so hot at mechanical/engineering side of things. :o

Actually looking at the original link you posted here it doesn't look so bad on the final finished product, especially the one in black which would blend in with my bike which is also black.. would this mid drive approach be faster than a hub motor then? I imagine you would need to be very...

How limited do you think it will be, assuming at 328 RPM? On the one hand it will be good maybe as it will encourage me not to be lazy and pedal more...but on the other, it's nice to have the option to go fast, particularly as I'm always in a rush to get to the sorting office :P

Thanks Dave, I think I'd like to go with a rear hub though. I want the bike to look as non-electric as possible. Jerry tells me a front hub is out of the question on this bike as the front wheel releases from the dropouts for folding. The rear wheel also swings around to fold, but I don't think...

How much does the battery and controller weigh? Controllers generally don't take much weight up it's the battery and motor which adds the most weight. A 10Ah 36V Li-Ion battery will weighs about 2.3kg. And a 250W 36V motor weighs about 3kg. I see looking at the spec of your bike it's using...

I got caught out twice on my bike when battery ran out...I just slipped the chain down to middle gear and cycled back, luckily I didn't have more than a couple of miles...my gear shift doesn't work! That's a good point though...16" bike with no gears is a whole different scenario if the...

Try to build my first ebike

Hi Pat, I built my first bike 2 years ago and used a 26" MTB bike and a 250W front hub 36V kit I bought from rftec.eu in Austria. Although the kit was more expensive (330 euros) than buying one from BMSBattery or GreenBikeKit, I believe it's a better kit, it also has an LCD console. I added to...

Finally bought a smaller folder for conversion...

I'm used to 21-23mph on my 26" folder.. I need at least 20mph, mission impossible with 16" wheels?. But that's good news smaller motors can take higher voltage..I guess I won't need to buy a new battery then and can use my existing 36V 10Ah to save some cash.

Hi all! FINALLY after months and months of searching I've purchased another bike for doing my second conversion... I've been looking for something lighter and smaller to replace my 26" folder as I have a bad knee can't carry it up and down stairs any more. Anyway I need a bit of advice as I'm...

Hi all! FINALLY after months and months of searching I've purchased another bike for doing my second conversion... I've been looking for something lighter and smaller to replace my 26" folder as I have a bad knee and can't lug it up and down two flights of stairs everyday. I need a bit of...

Illegal electric bike fastest in Oxford commuter challenge

I don't think that's particularly fast or difficult on a decent lightweight adequately powered bike for a fit person who pedals. I can maintain about 20-21mph on my bike on the flat using full power (36v/250W) if I pedal in highest gear. I sometimes go a bit higher if I really pedal like crazy...

    Electric cars 'pose environmental threat'

Off-topic but interesting story reported by the BBC this morning suggesting new research indicates electric cars may not be the answer to greener transport. It suggests they may actually be worse than conventional cars for pollution in some areas.. it's not that clear cut though and research...
