    New battery/motor cut out?

I'm not familiar with that bike so maybe this is something best answered by someone else... but power cut-outs on very steep hills sometimes is quite normal.. it's normally just the controller protecting the motor if it's really struggling.. best way to avoid it is to help the motor as much as...

just got in after 24 miles and snapped the thumb throttle

I see what you mean.. you haven't had that bike long have you..considering the price you paid for it and it's only a low-cost repair, I reckon your dealer should fix it under warranty..might be worth a try? Your fingers are too manly for that little thumb throttle that's what it is, don't know...

just got in after 24 miles and snapped the thumb throttle

Superglue should hold it for a bit steve but it may break again eventually, these things are so cheap (about five quid from China) you may as well just replace it, I think they're pretty standard.

    36v 22 Ah 600 Watts = How Many Miles?

Steve doing 32mph on a pedelec sounds like a blast.. can you do that on throttle alone or is it on pedal assist? The fastest I can do on pedal assist is about 20mph in high gear on the flat with light pedalling.. on throttle it's very different story, my bike doesn't perform so good, it moves...

    36v 22 Ah 600 Watts = How Many Miles?

My guesstimate would be around 20-30 miles @ 600W and around 80-100 miles @ 200W eco...top end figures would be best case scenario. These guesstimates I have based on the performance experience of my own bike doing some quick calculations and are based on using pedal assist at high power level...

    My Conversion Project: Part 1

Thanks :) The UM A2B sounds like a hoot, but as you say damn expensive and not very practical as an everyday bike. I would whole heartily recommend the self-build option over buying an off the shelf bike, purely because you can get something to your own requirements and save money into the...

    My Conversion Project: Part 1

Hehe nooo quality kit! Made in China still of course, but I reckon this kit is a cut above many of the kind you see on eBay cheaper..worth the extra money in my opinion... you can though I've noticed buy much of this stuff directly from China separately..it might work out cheaper that way but...

    My Conversion Project: Part 1

My Conversion Project - Part 2 I've now begun making a few final improvements designed to enable the battery and controller to be removed from the bike easily and put back quickly. This includes converting the wiring to DIN connectors and converting the velcro straps on the handlebar bag to...

    My Conversion Project: Part 1

As my first ebike conversion is now finished, I decided to do a write-up about it which some of you may find interesting, perhaps even helpful. Background and reasons for doing a conversion After test-riding an electric bike last November and being impressed by ebikes, (but not by the...

All set for a long ride...

Thanks, it was indeed. I'm looking forward to more days like this now the weather is warming up.. I think I did some posts about the progress of the conversion, mainly to get help when I ran into a couple of problems, but I haven't done a full write up yet. As far as conversions go I...

    Conversion Kits: The Great Debate

The other problem you have is that the technology is so fast moving that no sooner have you tested/reviewed a kit, than the manufacturers in China have come up with revisions and improvements or a new kit.. but I guess if you're doing this online you can constantly update whereas books go...

    Dogs!

What a sad story, nasty man.. but I guess being a farmer who is used to killing animals its just another animal.. Sounds like flecc had a nasty encounter though with the bite and all. If he had reported it no doubt the authorities might of ordered the dog to be put to down.

    Bolle glasses for cycling

I picked up these Bolle glasses off eBay a while ago and been waiting until today for some sun to try them out.. thought I would give them a quick mention as I found them to be astonishingly good cycling glasses for the 6 quid they cost compared to other expensive brands.. They're super...

    Dogs!

Scary! Maybe the sound of the motor excites them and makes them want to give chase.. I saw a dog looking at my bike today when I accelerated past but I've never been chased by one I must say.

A wind turbine for charging your battery???

I saw a large folding solar panel capable of charging ebike batteries at 24/36v a while ago, from China..wasn't too expensive either.. I expect that would be handy for anyone taking their bikes camping or boating etc.

    Rear drop-outs question..

Hi Mussels, I haven't had any probs with chain coming off so far, but early days.. I think the wheel is not perfectly true, how much out it is, and how much difference truing it would make to the frame proximity problem I don't know, it doesn't look too bad to me and my instinct is it won't...
