If your bike has Impulse motor, even more reason to sell. The other plus of changing bikes is warranty support from local dealer.

I suspect his bike is not assist limited to 15mph, 30mph more likely.

    Whats the difference.

The quality suspension components on FS MTB make all the difference and last. My Fox 34 forks have saved the day a couple of times on bad landings. Are they worth the high prices especially for services kits No. Would I ride with a lesser fork no. As for ebike drive systems, I suspect...

    Overweight motorcyclists want an ebike.

For serious FS eMTB factory middrives like Bosch, Yamaha, Brose are the only way to go. Just look at all mainstream MTB brands (Scott, trek, gaint, ktm, cube, haibike) and eMTBs they sell. These middrives require quality drivetrains like deore, slx or XT (don't know SRAM equivalent) to...

Most powerful eBike for long uphill journeys?

The new prototype Focus road bikes are 1.5kg for 60nm motor in down tube with 1.5kg 250wh battery. So 15-17kg FS eMtB is not unrealistic. I personally would settle for light 50nm motor plus decent gear range.

Most powerful eBike for long uphill journeys?

Yes and no to going slower DH. Tight sections definitely slower, but quicker acceleration on long straight sections and more stable. When weight comes down to around 17kg in few years as drives and batteries get lighter, then difference in handling won't be so marked.

Looking for a very light weight Step through bike

The Gepida ticks lite weight requirements, but small wheels and no suspension mean firmer ride. No rack, mudguards, lights. Unfortunately all these little extras that make riding a ebike a pleasure come with weight penalty.

Most powerful eBike for long uphill journeys?

Group tests of eMTB drives show considerable faster climb speed for CX compared to Brose. Power differences on graph would explain this. After owning a CX drive I find I rarely use Turbo. Never on single track more on fire roads if battery range isn't issue. With 14t chainring and 11-46t...

    Overweight motorcyclists want an ebike.

This would be good spec level for type of riding he likely to do given his age and back issues. £2800. Also checkout KTM, Scott, trek, Specialized and Haibike although the last two tend to be a bit overpriced. Cube are hard to beat on value for money...

News: What’s new for Bosch 2018: ABS, PowerTube & new Active Line

I tend to agree with you on this one. Doubt it is going stop front sliding out on road paint when cornering.

    Hoping for advice.

A middrive is better for steep climbs but is harder on drive train components. If you are only looking at light offroad with moderate climbs hub motor has some advantages. Build a whole new wheel with motor plus gears and you can switch between heavy ebike and normal MTB by swapping rear wheel...

    This seems a good idea

Hope they use same system on FS eMTB and hybrids.

2018 Bosch powertube, some more photos

May have to wait another year for new quieter CX replacement. New CX will most likely get 600-700wH battery and switch to normal size chainring. Hopefully new controls and display. The inframe battery will allow for dual battery installations with current battery. Much like Focus Jam.

    2500 budget

Cube are normal good value for money, £2500 should get you CX hardtail. Unfortunately £2500 won't get you full suspension eMTB will not one up to task that will last. With eMTBs it is worth paying a bit more for higher spec bikes. Aim for something with 32mm Fox airshocks or Rockshock...

New Bosch motors + better battery integration

For flat and moderate hills 40nm is more than enough for most riders. Which is lot of europe especially likes of Denmark, Netherlands, parts of Germany where Bosch has huge market share. For steeper country and less fit riders they still have Performance and CX.

New Bosch motors + better battery integration

Most customers want bigger batteries, especially eMTB. Bosch have to be able to match or better Shimano Steps which is their main competitor in this market. Most customers will go for 400-500WH battery over slightly more compact 300WH.
