    Buying from em3ev?

Nothing dodgy about them at all. EM3EV is based in China, run and owned by Paul (UK born), a long trusted member of the ebike community. IMO, EM3EV is the best of all the Chinese ebike companies, so you've little to worry about. AFAIU, there's no UK support, although Paul tends to deal with...

    Custom Builders

I converted a 2012 Giant Anthem X2, which I built for the sole-purpose of off-road trail and singletrack riding – for everything else, I prefer a rear direct drive motor with loads of power. As an aside, I personally wouldn't like to use a mid-drive as a daily driver. How is it? It's so much...

    Custom Builders

I've just finished a 2012 Giant Anthem X2 BBSHD build a couple of weeks ago. I can assure you that there's nothing difficult about installing a BBSXX kit - You can ask for any help you might need right here. It is important that you do some research first to ensure that your intended host bike...

Advice on which donor bike to buy please.

This has definitely been done before, although I think it was a one-off fabrication. I can't remember where I saw it (probably on ES), but I stumbled across it recently while looking for a PF41 to JIS BB adapter. EDIT: I've not managed to find it having just spent 15 mins looking, so I'm...

Advice on which donor bike to buy please.

Sorry, a total brainfart moment from me there. I was picturing a 73mm motor, along with a spacer in a 68mm BB. You are of course totally correct. A BBSHD in a longer length would be the only option.

Advice on which donor bike to buy please.

I hadn't realised about the oversized chainstays, although in my experience, a 68mm BBSxx motor should fit a 73mm BB along with a spacer and longer bolts for the fixing plate. There's also the BBSHD if a longer BB is required.

Advice on which donor bike to buy please.

Is this due to having a press fit bottom bracket? If so, a BB adapter can usually be used to accommodate a BBSxx motor.

    Brake cut off query

Yes, but you will need to source 5V from elsewhere (throttle or PAS) to power the sensor.

Peter Sagan v 81 year old on Gran on an ebike

Funny advert, but how can they make the claim of "The world's fastest electric bike"?

I want music on my bike.

I own a pair of Aftershokz Bluez 2 bone conduction headphones, but they suffer the same issue you describe. Once riding at 20mph+, they are drowned out by wind noise. Also, the sound quality is pretty poor and they're only really suitable for voice audio IMO. I also own a Minirig...

30 mile each way commute, which bike is best?

Looks like you got a great deal there! I always enjoy reading about your next mental build. What's your plan for it?

    Heatwave!

Although excessive levels of heat will affect the longevity of a battery, they will actually deliver MORE power when warm (as opposed to cold) due to increased ionic motion rates. This is why Tesla batteries are preheated when operating in 'ludicrous mode', so to ensure they are able to deliver...

How to add a throttle to a Carrera Vengeance E Spec

Okaaaaay, that makes way more sense. I assumed that it was a standard cadence PAS behaviour where the pedal cadence does not affect the motor output and couldn't figure out the mechanism you were using to send a variable signal to the controller. Double kudos to you in that case and the best of...

How to add a throttle to a Carrera Vengeance E Spec

Thanks for your reply. So, just to confirm, does the standard (unmodified) PAS behavior on the Carrera Vengeance vary the motor power with pedal cadence?

How to add a throttle to a Carrera Vengeance E Spec

Good job! Can you please clarify the end result? Is the throttle output fully variable, or is it single speed, regulated by the current PAS level selection? EDIT: Having re-read the thread and watched your video, it looks like you've achieved variable motor speed using the throttle output, but...

Really? You think £30 is expensive for such a job? I'm interested to hear what you think would be a fair charge?
