Brompton motors - rims requiring drilling out

How many rims are we talking about? It wouldn't take too long to enlarge the valve hole on a couple of hundred rims with a hand-held electric drill.

Fosil fuel in the rear view mirror

I'm fairly sure that an end-mount mirror would be compatible with a full-twist throttle. After all, there's still a bar end underneath the throttle - you'd just have to cut a hole in the end of the throttle to reach it. Maybe wait for someone else to confirm before making a decision though...

First eBike conversion, helped needed (photos shown)

This is something that has always puzzled me. My Crystalyte H3540 is specified as having a 14mm axle, is shown in the product schematic as a 14mm axle and looks just like the OP's. However, it measures only 12mm across the threads, takes 12mm washers and 12mm torque arms. I never did find an...

    Hub gears for my bike

Of course there is. I certainly wouldn't pass up more torque at faster speeds if I had it on tap.

    Tempted to DIY

Nearly anybody can design and build a reliable low powered system. Your statement however couldn't be further from the truth. It is the hobbyists creating new and wonderful builds in their homes, sheds and garages that are really pushing the envelope of what's possible. I'd go as far as to say...

    HUB MOTOR CAPABILITY

Completely agree. That's why I included the statement "At any given performance point....." when I introduced the discussion to the thread. Running different windings on the same voltage and current will give totally different performance characteristics as you rightly mention. When you're...

    HUB MOTOR CAPABILITY

That's correct, but no big deal - £1 of heavier gauge cable will combat that and the lower system voltage has additional benefits.

    HUB MOTOR CAPABILITY

I'm not able to add anything to the discussion that hasn't already been posted in the Science, Physics, Math, & Myth thread previously linked to. I will reiterate however that copper losses in this instance would be equal since the decrease in resistance of the shorter, wider 'faster' winding...

    Growbags or pots

Bloody hell, that's good going! Do you eat all your home-grown tomatoes, or do you sell them at your local fruit & veg market?

    HUB MOTOR CAPABILITY

I don't want to start any arguments, but we're going into territory that is often misunderstood, even by those with high levels of technical knowledge. There is nothing about a specific winding of motor ('fast' or 'slow' winding) that makes them inherently better at delivering torque or speed...

    Growbags or pots

Nice, erm, tomatoes. How many plants is that yield from?

    HUB MOTOR CAPABILITY

Simple answer: Heat. If it's regularly reaching temperatures of over 100C (winding temperature), you're pushing it too hard and require a larger motor. When people talk of burning out a motor, they're talking about getting it so hot that the varnish on the windings burn up and the motor becomes...

Arrgghh why doesn't anyone make good thumb throtttles

Now that I've been 'outed', what's the Pedelecs policy on the matter? I've never actively promoted either my goods, or business here since I like having a non-trade account and the freedom it brings.

Arrgghh why doesn't anyone make good thumb throtttles

Yeah, that's me. I can't believe it's taken this long for someone to realise. I've been doing online marketplace sales for over 20 months. At first it was just to make some cash after losing my job at the time, but I've kept it up and now it's actually my main source of income and has grown into...

Arrgghh why doesn't anyone make good thumb throtttles

The thumb throttle shown (Wuxing 108x) is available as a left and right hand version and IMO is the best thumb throttle that I know of.

    Turnigy Graphene.

This isn't the case when paralleling packs, only when connecting in series. As long as the paralleled packs are the same voltage, there shouldn't be any issue.

    Turnigy Graphene.

I've just taken receipt of 9000W of power supplies: I'm yet to do the maths, but they'll charge your graphene lipos pretty bl**dy quick!

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

I totally understand your frustration. Take a look here: https://endless-sphere.com/w/index.php/Main_Page There's a lot of information contained in the Endless Sphere wiki, but it's probably the single most comprehensive collection of information on the subject of electric bikes. Keep in mind...

I hope you're not quoting me there, since that's NOT what I said.
