    Which bike to buy?

Hold on to your hats, I'm about to throw some more science into the discussion... Torque is a function of stator width. This means that all else being equal, a 25mm motor will generate half as much torque as a 50mm motor. Therefore, it is possible that a higher rated motor will give greater...

    such a thing as

This is available from ebikes.ca and if I'm not mistaken, all their DD motors come with ferrofluid installed as standard now, so they can take more abuse than equivalent non FF cooled motors.

Zurich home insurance will cover you in this instance, but the bike needs to be a named addition to the standard policy.

How to choose between 1000w and 1500w

Motor theory is not too complicated, but can be totally perplexing to a novice. The amount of misinformation you have been given over your multiple threads on this forum is immense. Combined with your own misunderstandings, it is no surprise that you're confused.

Yoch 1300W mid-drive conversion kit, MEATY!

I haven't looked at the dimensions, but stator width perhaps? Alternatively, winding speed maybe?

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

Completely agree with that, but it doesn't affect legal EAPC usage.

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

I might just be really thick, but I still can't see how any of that will help, or affect how offenders are prosecuted. Again, if somebody is riding an illegal bike either now, or following any changes to EAPC laws, they will be prosecuted as a motorcycle, NOT a bike. I can foresee a change to...

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

What would any of those (unlikely) measures achieve when the legislation required to prosecute already exists?

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

I might be missing something here, but how could they be further regulated in a way that makes any difference though, especially since laws already exist to prosecute if the crown wishes to do so? In addition, anyone who is already riding illegally, isn't going to comply with further restrictions

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

I'm not sure that this is relevant to electric bikes though. Pedelecs are already regulated - their status and usage being defined in law quite clearly. Illegal electric bikes are classed as a moped/motorcycle by law, so any judgement against them will be made on the basis of riding an...

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

I hope my first comment about this post didn't sound too dismissive. You do actually make a good point about making sure the bike is suitable for the task, whatever the budget. Perversely though, it's often the more exotic high end bikes that prove unsuitable candidates for a conversion.

Come on, the bike in my avatar is already at the peak of performance!

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

It isn't. That's just another typical overreaction. Making such a sweeping statement about 'illegal bikes' takes away from any merit the point might have actually had. At the cheaper end of the market, you might even find a steel frame which could be a great candidate for having a powerful...

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

This doesn't change the legal status of the bike though. The conclusion of this perennial discussion is always the same. If you make the decision to ride an illegal bike and do so with respect and consideration for other road users, the chance of any attention from the law will be extremely...

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

It doesn't. In the eyes of the law, the illegal bike is a moped, so it doesn't reflect on anyone riding an EAPC in any way whatsoever. If and when the need arises, this is exactly what will happen. Any alternative doomsday theory is simply over reactive nonsense. In addition, how private land...

I really dislike this forum at times... OP, do yourself a favour and try https://endless-sphere.com/forums instead. Although less UK centric, folks there tend to be much more open-minded and much less likely to s**t all over your thread.

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

To be completely honest, off-the-shelf bikes don't interest me in the slightest, so I do not have the missing information. Someone else will likely know the controller current of these bikes, but failing that, you could just ask the retailer. If they didn't know, it'd tell me everything I need...

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

You need to stop paying attention to published 'ratings' as an indicator of performance. A 1500W rated bike will not give six times the performance of a 250W rated bike, at least not 99% of the time. When assessing performance, a good starting point is to find out how much power is delivered to...
