Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

It's all very well saying that you want "better acceleration and top speed", but as there's such a wide gamut of possibilities, you really need to quantify what kind of performance you are looking for and for what kind of usage scenario. What we know: Budget: £1500 You're not interested in any...

Non-legal mountain e-bike with good torque and top speed that is under 1500 quid?

Possibly because there's usually more performance potential in an 'illegal' bike, although doesn't always translate into practice when legal motors are sometimes underrated.

Nice replacement controller - cheap too.

Nice find. My only criticism is that I like my thumb throttles to turn about the Y-axis, rather than the X-axis (eg. Wuxing 108x) as I find the movement a much more natural feel. Looks good for the money though.

    Which e-bike that accelerates fast

There is legal or illegal. 'Slightly illegal' doesn't exist. Once you cross the line, you might as well "go big, or go home". It makes sense now. If you're only running a DD on 800W, you're wasting you're time and geared would be a much better bet.

    Which e-bike that accelerates fast

Fair enough. As mentioned previously, mine definitely aren't.

    Which e-bike that accelerates fast

Not quite that powerful, but not too far off the mark. It's all relative. Your 'high power' can't be the same as mine. If it were, you'd know that this simply isn't true. IMO, direct drive motors are only worth it if fed 2kW or more. At this point, they aren't dissimilar in torque output from...

    Even more battery news

I've read about too many of these battery 'breakthroughs' to know that unless they are being mass produced and supplied to market, it might as well have never been reported. I live in hope though.

    and next on their list?

Touché. I think I'm reluctantly inclined to agree with you there.

    and next on their list?

The Germans can't resist a bit of market control, can they? I guess that if they can't rule the world through politics, they're happy to do so through corporatism.

    Which e-bike that accelerates fast

There is a fourth option that almost always gets overlooked on this forum, as if it never existed: 4: A big direct drive motor fed with oodles of power. This will out accelerate all of the above and is what the hot-rodders normally chose for on-road high performance. EDIT: This suggestion is...

    Hello from Essex

I notice that both of those wheelchair conversion kits feature direct drive motors. Unless I'm missing something, there's certainly an argument that geared motors would be better for the task due to their ability to freewheel when propelling the wheelchair with your arms.

E-bike with motors greater than 250w, speeds above 15mph and the UK police

Are you able to provide any more details of this? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be interested to hear about it.

    Battery cables and On/Off switch

A 16A fuse will still blow at 16A, even at 42V. The danger is that the higher the voltage, the greater the electrical arcing, although in practice, blade fuses contain enough fuse wire to extinguish a 42V arc.

    Battery cables and On/Off switch

You could be right and I've only used poor quality blade fuse holders, but I have tried three or four different types. The problem was always the same – poor conductivity between the holder and fuse legs that eventually resulted in a melted fuse holder and wire insulation. Using a pair of...

Thanks for the heads-up peeps. Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled.

    Battery cables and On/Off switch

Really? I can't believe you're recommending automotive blade fuses. Every single time I've used them on an ebike, they've ended up causing me nothing but trouble and I'm not the only one to experience this. Do you bother with a fuse on your builds? If so, what do you use? I cannot believe you...

    Battery cables and On/Off switch

Who said anything about domestic circuit breakers? DC breakers are available in a wide range of amperages and voltages and as well as surge protection, provide a convenient way to disconnect your battery from the rest of the system. Fuses are used in cars because they are cheap.

Hobby king multi star on offer

Has anyone recently ordered any 16000mAh Multistar bricks (4S or 6S) from the HobbyKing UK warehouse? They're only currently available from the Aus or Global warehouses and I was wondering if they've recently become out of stock, or whether they've been on backorder for a while. Probably a long...

    Shunt soldering

Thanks. Having played with the Grin motor simulator for hours previously, it's clear that I need to study it for a while longer. When I get the chance I'll have another go.
