    Elevation based cycle route planner?

Try cyclestreets.net, or their standalone Android app 'CycleStreets'. It does take into account elevation when calculating routes, although I don't think the algorithm used is customisable.

    Bike computer

That doesn't surprise me. Budget phones have to cut corners somewhere and internal storage is nearly always the first casualty. Memory cards are cheap though, so not a real biggie. If you need any help with the app once the memory card is installed, just let me know.

    Air suspension fork recommendations

Would it be a bad idea to swap 100mm travel forks for 150mm? I imagine it would slacken the head tube angle somewhat, but to what degree I don't know.

    Air suspension fork recommendations

Cheers guys, that's the decision made then. I'm now on the lookout for a used 26" Reba with min 200mm straight steerer. Nothing on ebay at present, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

    Air suspension fork recommendations

Thanks. I was looking at the Reba previously and apparently the service interval is lots longer than the Fox, so I'm swaying towards that at present. The price of decent forks is shocking and it probably makes financial sense to buy another bike. As a 2 year work in progress, the current MTB...

    Air suspension fork recommendations

I'm looking to replace a siezed coil spring fork on my h/t MTB and fancy a decent upgrade. My knowledge on suspension forks is pretty limited though. Are there any bargains to look out for? My requirements are: 26" wheel Straight 1 1/8 inch steerer Air sprung Lock out (not remote) Around 120mm...

    Bike computer

I've got two apps to recommend: 1) OSMAnd Uses open source mapping data with extremely detailed off-road path info. Although the interface is clunkier than Google Maps, the mapping data is far better. Even better than an OS map IMO. 2) Cyclestreets The best cycle routing available, bar none...

    Punctures !!!!

I've had a positive, albeit rather limited experience with tyre inserts. I used to experience a puncture every couple of weeks, but since fitting liners to my main ride about 18 months ago, have only had one. The puncture was caused by a meaty 2" thorn that penetrated right through the liner...

    Bike lock

I am in the market for such a lock to compliment my existing D-lock, so approached it with an open mind. Looking at reviews from a variety of sources doesn't inspire much confidence. There are plenty of tales of stolen bikes while using this lock, one defeated with just a broom handle to apply...

    Bike lock

D8, have you read any of the reviews on this lock? I'm struggling to find a positive one once the lock has been tested. Knowing how poor the security it provides, it's probably not a great recommendation.

    Battery leap on the horizon

Just checked and I've still a complete set. Talking of balls, has anyone seen this advert doing the rounds on the telly at the moment? I thought it was a joke, but no, it's a genuine ad for a real product.

    Battery leap on the horizon

These "breakthroughs" always surface when they are looking for investment. I'll bet one of my testicles that it'll never make it to market, or even work in practice as the article claims.

    offroad kit

Auto-correction would be an unsuitable measure and would surely be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. 'Offroad' is a perfectly valid word meaning "away from the road; on rough terrain". It's the assumption that 'offroad' is synonymous with 'private land' that is the error.

    Re generative charging

Regenerative braking is not worth basing a whole build around. However, if you feel that a direct drive motor is the the right type of motor for you due to its reliability and high power capability, regeneration is a nice extra that is worth setting up. IMO, the main advantage to regeneration...

    The new best headlight

Anyone who 'charges' their batteries with a butane torch deserves as much. Right, I've derailed this thread enough as it is. It was originally about a specific light that seems to have been fairly well received, so all's well that ends well... ....Except for the nob torching batteries.

    The new best headlight

In all fairness, even authentic 18650 cells will flame if loaded with 12V. From the look of the debris, that cell looks like a smaller cell, wrapped in paper, then shrinkwrapped - typical of those with 'fire' in their name.

Ahhaha, check out these beauts! I mean, who are they trying to kid? 12000mAh, WTF!!!

    Training for E-bike mechanic

Although you won't get a *cough* certificate, IMO there's no better way to learn ebikes than to "learn by doing". By making a variety of DIY builds, you will gain exposure to as much technology as possible. Both that and to actively read and post both on here and Endless Sphere as if it were...

    The new best headlight

I am not knocking unbranded China produce. I purchase more than most and in fact my income almost wholly depends on it. What I do know however, is that unbranded 18650 cells are, IMPO, 'junk'. Even most branded ones on Ebay are fake.

    The new best headlight

Without hard figures, it is impossible to qualify that you have got what you paid for. Of course, I have made a huge generalisation; an assumption made from my previous experience of buying cells and anecdotal evidence of others'. My experience does tell me however that 99% of cells bought on...
