    New Gtech ebike

5.6Ah on its own does not tell us the amount of energy stored in a battery - you also need to know the voltage. Multiply the two together and you get Wh's. Watt-hours allow you to compare the capacity of two packs of varying voltages, amp-hours on its own doesn't.

    The new best headlight

Just to qualify my earlier comment, it isn't aimed at anybody in particular, but it was prompted by one of EddiePJ's comments. The comment wasn't intended to 'troll' or wind anybody up. When I purchase a battery with an advertised capacity, I expect to recieve said battery that delivers the...

    Project Brompton Revival

Hi cwah. Only you can say whether it's worth your time. If you earn enough to replace the motor in a few hours, then your time might be worth more than the motor. Starting at the beginning (freewheel removal), have you tried giving the spanner several good whacks with a mallet while mated with...

    SPOKES

For the purpose of full disclosure, I don't have any practical experience with breaking spokes - I only weigh a little over 9 stone and don't currently run more than 3Kw through a hub motor. My knowledge is purely theoretical and is based on others' experiences. I'm going to backtrack ever so...

    Ah OR Wh

As long as you are travelling at the same speed, over the same journey, with the same amount of headwinds, 117Wh will get you there. The trouble is that by raising the voltage, your top speed increases and unless you are disciplined enough to stick to your old top speed, a new higher top speed...

    SPOKES

Hot-rodders running huge power through hub motors will confirm, that although somewhat counter-intuitive, thinner spokes will generally give a stronger wheel. Many a power junkie has battled with braking spokes and discovered the solution is to simply swap their spokes for thinner ones.

Touring teething problems, extraction or remidial work?

Are you having a laugh? Just try leaving them on charge for a decent amount of time and see if things improve. No point in considering doomsday scenarios until you've done the basics. Also, take what Decathlon says with a pinch of salt. They won't have a clue about electric bikes and members...

Touring teething problems, extraction or remidial work?

You need to leave the batteries charging after the indicator goes green for the BMS to do its job properly. Leave them both charging overnight and see if the situation improves at all.

Price increases, has anyone come across any since Friday?

I'm no economics expert, but those two brands are pretty high-end aren't they? Would the same still apply at the budget end of the market where margins are pretty thin?

Touring teething problems, extraction or remidial work?

Welcome to the forum. Have you tried leaving the batteries on charge overnight? Sometimes the individual cells that make up a battery become unbalanced (unequal amounts of charge from cell to cell) and this causes some of them to become fully discharged before others inside the pack. The...

Any tint added to the lens will of course reduce the light output.

    Where's the battery?

Surely by definition a 1C charge will never take less than an hour, unless it's only a partial charge. The charge I need for my daily errands takes under 15 minutes (0.66C/1300W), but my primary pack is so big (1865Wh) that it only accounts for under 10% pack capacity. I fully expect this pack...

Unless your charger features a discharge function, it's not going to be of any help here. You could pick up a couple of 12V automotive halogen bulbs from Poundland for load testing.

I'd say they're either fake or faulty. Are you able to load test them individually as it might only be one that is causing a problem?

4.13V is a little over 90% full, so it won't make much difference.

Even if comparing the best and worst LEDs on the market, efficiency doesn't vary that much between them, so power consumption is a reasonable indication of light output. At around 16W power consumption, that is majorly disappointing. Just goes to show that more isn't always better.

    Volts & Amps.

A larger capacity battery will give you increased range. This is analogous to fitting a larger petrol tank on your car. No damage will occur from using a battery with a greater capacity than your current one.
