Hobby king multi star on offer

I couldn't let this offer pass, so I've now got 7x (6 + 1 spare) 16000mAh 4S Multistar packs on their way. This addition to my battery collection now gives me an 'extended range' battery of 2752Wh. Who can beat that? :-)

Hobby king multi star on offer

I know this thread is supposed to be about Multistar packs, but a number of other packs are also on sale. Most notable are the 6S 5000mAh 20C packs at £21.89 each: http://hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/__26675__Turnigy_5000mAh_6S_20C_Lipo_Pack_UK_Warehouse_.html This has completely thrown my...

Hobby king multi star on offer

Just noticed that at current prices, the 10000mAh packs match the 16000mAh on a Wh/£ basis. Not quite as convenient, but more flexible for filling small or awkward shaped spaces. EDIT: Also, the 4S Multistar packs are even better value than the 6S packs. You can fit 6 4S 16000mAh packs in an...

Hobby king multi star on offer

Woah, that's a great price! I'm waiting it out until the summer then I plan to buy some 20000mAh packs. Haven't seen any discounts on them like this though.

Hobby king multi star on offer

As hinted in my previous post, I run my lipo packs without any BMS protection, sometimes referred to as 'bareback lipo'. This isn't a setup that I would ever recommend to anyone, but is perfectly manageable if lipo is kept within certain operating parameters. If these have to be explained...

The alternative to balance chargers is a BMS and bulk charger. With this solution you're left with a simple plug and forget type charging setup.

Hobby king multi star on offer

Cells in a healthy lipo pack should stay balanced within a couple of 0.01v of each other if you don't discharge past the 3.65v per cell point. Not that it will matter too much if you are only using two separate packs and intend on balancing every charge. Something to think about though for those...

Hobby king multi star on offer

Hobbyking are hugely optimistic regarding the power density of their lipo packs. You should derate the C rating by a factor of four to ensure a healthy battery life, low levels of heat and acceptable voltage sag. I'd also steer clear of the 'HV' variant of the Multistar packs. They're just a...

Donor bikes - what to look for?

"I do want as much power as possible" Are you sure about this? You might be surprised at what is possible: Is this your first build? You certainly don't need super high levels of power to climb hills at a leisurely pace.

Donor bikes - what to look for?

Are you looking to build a pedelec (legal) or something with more power (unregistered motorbike)? £2,000 is a nice budget for a DIY build. If the answer to the above question is the latter and you do have that sort of money at your disposal, my recommendation would be to look at either of the...

Donor bikes - what to look for?

A point that I think has been missed up until now, is that a mid-drive will feel most "bike like". The bike will retain an even front/rear balance with the motor mounted at the crank and the battery in the centre of the frame. You will also be forced to think about gear selection like with a...

Donor bikes - what to look for?

I love threads like this - all perfectly valid answers covering about every possible setup. +1 on hydraulic disk brakes though. What is your budget?

Donor bikes - what to look for?

Yes, no and maybe. I am a big fan of big rear-mounted DD hub motors. I love the simplicity, durability and reliability of them. Nothing else comes close in these aspects. Generally speaking, they can also handle far more power than most other types of motor. Mid-drive motors will always be...

Donor bikes - what to look for?

If you're not concerned about remaining legal, don't be so quick to dismiss a DD hub. They give plenty of torque if you feed them enough power and they'll withstand far more power than any geared hub will.

    Nuts always getting loose

Good advice no matter what fastener you use! I recently found myself getting very frustrated with a chain splitter that didn't work as it used to. After half an hour and a hand full of scraped knuckles I realised the problem. A squirt of oil to the thread of the tool and it was working again...

    Nuts always getting loose

The Nord Lock washers are split into two parts. They are meant to separate like that as movement between the parts allows the cams to push the halves apart and create torque. I'm running regen on a 60A controller and they do a great job at keeping my nuts tight. I'm really not sure why you are...

How on earth does he get away with this?

I wouldn't worry cwah. Sounds like a case of small pen!s syndrome. They were clearly annoyed that their bike fitness now counts for nothing to the casual observer when they are overtaken by you on your folder at 30+ mph. Bell ends like this are best dealt with by something similar to soundwave's...

Hobby king multi star on offer

Our bikes are setup similarly - I have an EM3EV frame bag and another small triangle bag sitting on top of the crossbar in the same fashion. I am looking for additional battery capacity to hold enough for a days ride from Bath to London I love the utility of the Additive V2 bag, but not its...
