    Batteries Charging Routine

Your results are not far off what most research is showing as for example below. (3v - 4.1v @ .2C) Its also interesting to note that the higher capacity cell suffer more loss of capacity when charged at 4.1 volt.e.g the Samsung 36G has less capacity than the 35E when charged to 4.1v. This has...

    Batteries Charging Routine

The guy that does the testing for lygte suggests a wait for up to one hour for cells to reach equilibrium in link below. He gives a figure of about 10% loss of capacity when cell is charged at 4.1v for the cell he tested. https://lygte-info.dk/info/BatteryChargeVoltageCurrent%20UK.html

    Charging pack to 41V experiment

Lygte has some extra data on effect of charger termination current (which also has to be taken into account) below on a sample cell to overall capacity. https://lygte-info.dk/info/BatteryChargeVoltageCurrent%20UK.html

    Charging pack to 41V experiment

Interestingly, Samsung quote an exact figure in my case with 21700-33j cells. The Samsung data below per cell shows a capacity of 12 Wh at 4.2v and 10.83Wh at 4.1v. Perhaps the exact figure is dependent on the actual cell.

36V Bosch tool battery for e-bike use

The other possible explanation is that the temperature sensor although fitted to battery is not used.

36V Bosch tool battery for e-bike use

I cant answer that. There website below claims 'Protection against overheating through temperature monitoring' in link below. Many mobile phone batteries also have an extra terminal for temp sensing. My understanding is that if you want quick charging, its best to monitor the temperature...

    Supplementary Battery Question

There is an additional feature (hack) I always do to my own home brew batteries and sometimes other batteries and that's to fit an additional test wire so I can quickly manually monitor the batteries condition/balance without having to open the case. This test wire consists of a connection to...

36V Bosch tool battery for e-bike use

As far as I know, tool batteries are usually designed for very quick charge/discharge times and the temperature sensors play a very important role.

    Battery advice

He has already bought the two kits. If he buys the two batteries, he can try out by fitting both kits on the one bike as suggested. Its a flexible option in that he can leave the rear kit on the bike and remove the front kit and fit to a separate bike with suitable (preferably steel) front...

    Supplementary Battery Question

There is an oscillation you get when you parallel a new battery with low internal resistance with an old battery with a higher internal resistance . The batteries may balance initially but what happens under load? The new battery because of its lower internal resistance will supply...

    Battery advice

One suggestion is to get two smaller batteries and wire each independently to the two controllers. You fit pedal assist with display on the rear motor and a basic throttle kit on the front motor with no pas and the display bypassed .(The front motor then works independently as a sort of...

Yet more stuff in the media on battery fires and kits

Petrol fueled bikes were not exactly 100% safe either. I had one with a sticking float in one of the carbs and could leak petrol if the petrol tap was not turned off when on the side stand. I dont think this was uncommon. But generally people do not keep petrol indoors in their house, although...

    Batteries Charging Routine

I have a rule of thumb for estimating the amount of battery I comfortably need on a journey. I need 10w per km + 30w per 100 meters altitude climbed. On windy days, I probably need a little more. On calm days, I always have power left over. I suppose there are two motors on an pedelec, the...

    Vlcd5

You normally press the 'i' button 4 times in succession after SEr (service) and follow the instruction as suggested on page 11 of this version of instructions attached below. Other thing that have been suggested by others is to temporary disconnect all other wiring e.g brake sensors, handlebar...

    Batteries Charging Routine

Some of these problems/odds of fire are small I agree (we will say about a million to one per day to illustrate but I dont have an exact figure). But here lies the potential problem I think in that there is a huge growth in the sale of electric scooters and ebikes (which are often grouped...

    Batteries Charging Routine

Lithium cells are also potentially dangerous in that 'dendrites' can form internally in the individual cell that internally short circuits the cell and the whole parallel cell group can discharge through that cell, resulting in a 'thermal runaway' situation. I think age/abusing cell/bad quality...

    Batteries Charging Routine

There is a difference in build quality of batteries. For example the faulty Phylion battery I dismantled mentioned above had 2 temperature sensors embedded between the cells with that white thermo goo stuff and also an additional thermal fuse on charging circuit also embedded. Some of the...

    Batteries Charging Routine

Batteries do wear. One of my original batteries (2017 & about 900 cycles) lately suddenly started to give reduced range. The advice often given in this case is to plug it in overnight for a long charge . Anyhow, I was suspicious that something was wrong. When I opened battery to check, I got a...

    Batteries Charging Routine

Looking at your graph, the last hours charging (90-150 minutes) is unproductive. Very little Ah is gained and the battery wont be balancing anyway . You could stop the charger early at the 90 min point if you want or are in a hurry. Get into the habit of feeling the charger temperature. When...
