    Controller operation modes

The German forum has a long and detailed discussion (94 pages) on the workings and possible customization of some of these controllers. ( with Google Chrome, right click and translate in English). To clarify another point, these controllers seem to fit the shunts on the 3 motor phases as...

    Controller operation modes

I have attached a training document below that explains a lot about the inner workings of a basic controller. In page 8, it explains how a reference voltage can alter the pulse width ( which controls the current as saneagle explained above). However, it does not explain how this reference...

    Wayfarer back brake rubbing

Fixing a rear wheel puncture can be tricky, especially on the side of the road and especially if your eyesight is not as good as it use to be. Anyhow, it might be worth carrying an open ended Gaadi tube for a spare so as you dont need to remove the wheel. e.g...

    KT C15 parameter

Normally, the LCD and controller are bought together. It is possible that your LCD has some additional customised function. (Some of the earlier Cyclotricity LCD1's had an extra P6). Anyhow,I would be inclined to leave this setting alone ( at its default value) if possible in case it has some...

    Bafang mid drive mod

But you are right in questioning the reason for this additional freewheel/spragclutch (which gives a total of three freewheels on some mid motor bikes). For example, one version of the 250W TSDZ2 comes with a 'coaster brake function' that does not have this additional clutch and has been...

    Bafang mid drive mod

The sprag clutch also assists the use of a throttle, in that the motor can drive the chainring and bike forward without the pedal and cranks and legs moving. Great for resting the legs. It makes the mid drive almost as good as a hub motor for the easy (or lazy) rider.:)

    Bafang mid drive mod

The TSDZ2 has a sprag clutch bearing between crank and chainwheel that acts like a freewheel. . This is very easy to check. With bike turned off, pedal backways. On normal bike, chainring and chain moves backways along with cranks. On many middrives, chain and chainwheel remains stationary and...

    Controller operation modes

Ohms law really only applies to linear resistances. There is a problem when you apply it to a 'system' which doesent have a fixed resistance as such . But you can apply it to say the components of a system if they are linear . Anyhow, when you double the voltage to a motor, you also double its...

    MXUS xf07 270rmp general discussion & info

You are asking too much to run this motor at 48v.(imo) The motor is 270 rpm @ 36v but at 48v the motor rpm increases by 30% to over 350 rpm. It would be ok with a smaller wheel (e.g 20 inch) or if you were very fit and could give plenty of leg power to keep the bike running fast.

    does wheel size matter?

The actual nominal difference between 26 inch and 28 inch is approx 8%. However, the actual difference can be much less depending on the tyres and a little arithmetic shows this. The 700c rim bed (where the tyre wire/cord fits) is actually 622mm or 24.5 inches. The 26 inch rim bed is 559mm or 22...

    Woosh DWG22 installation, horizontalish dropouts

There are different versions of the semi-horizontal dropouts. I fitted a rear motor once to the blue 'without hanger' stamped type as pictured below with the cable pointing forward and downwards at 45 degrees.

    does wheel size matter?

Your wheel width or particularly your chainstays looks wide and there may be a problem with the motor chainwheel housing touching the chainstay. Photo below (although its for the wider axle kit on fatbike) gives some indication of potential problem but you need to carefully measure this for...

    Tongsheng display wanted

Afaik, there is a six and an eight wire version of the controller and display wiring. If your kit came with a throttle, you probably have the 8 wire version of display (cable) and you may run into trouble if you get the six wire display. (you need to check this). Incidentally, it has been claimed...

Help! TDSZ2: lights remain always on even if switched off on VLCD5

Hi. Firstly, just to get the terminology right, The VLCD5 is usually called the 'display' unit. With the TSDZ2, the controller resides in the motor casing beside the motor. The controller is the thing that converts the battery Direct Current into the timed three phase type motor current. Anyhow...

    Battery life

A car can be much more complicated to convert than a bike or motor bike due to all the additional auxiliary things, such as power steering, brake servo, heater/demister/air condition that are not necessary with bike.

    Battery life

An Opel Zafira (petrol I think?) went on fire in Ireland a few years ago and almost burnt down down a whole shopping center. It did 30 million euro damage but no one died. I suppose all fuel carrying vehicles, whether the fuel is electrons or oil carry some risk.

Please help - my e-bike is my commute and won’t work :-(

I dont know if this helps, but most ebikes have a 'walk assist' function that works independently of the pedal assist sensor (PAS). On the KT LCD5, with the bike powered up but not moving, pressing the down arrow button should normally weakly/slowly put the wheel in motion. (make sure pas on LCD...

    Sprocket wear

PS Some additional info on how 'torque' , wheel radius and climbing ability relate. A full understanding of ‘torque’ is useful when considering what a motor can do. For example, lets say myself and my bike together weight 110kg and I want to climb a 1 in 10 hill (10% hill). Approximation the...

    Sprocket wear

But we do already have a consistent way of comparing one motor with another in terms of torque and rpm. Both the motor rpm/volt and torque is normally quoted measured at the shaft (or the hub motor body in our case). The wheel size affects the load and speed, but not the motor torque or rpm...

    Sprocket wear

No, Its not just semantics. The torque quoted is always independent of wheel size. But wheel size affects the thrust. So a 20 inch wheel with a 40Nm hub motor has the same 'thrust' as a 28 inch wheel with a 56Nm hub motor. That's why the smaller wheel appears to have more 'torque' whereas in...
