    Road Safety Changes Poll

Not so sure about this. The restricted vehicles would tend to set the legal speed on a road. Others in older vehicles would either have to overtake them or conform to the law. As for new car sales, a huge proportion are fleet sales to companies and they would only see the benefits, less fuel...

    Another cyclist death this morning.

Flecc. This point is always coming up and we need ready reference to it. Can we make it a 'sticky'?

    Cycle Lanes

This happens to me frequently. I can understand young children, but I bet most of the adults are car drivers and you would think that it would be instinctive to keep left.

    20mph-zone-but-police-wont-enforce-it-

Ours by the village school started when a council officer with a radar gun appeared and clocked the cars doing more than the then 30mph limit. All the kids in the playground were cheering. Then the kids wrote letters to the offending drivers. Next, a 20mph limit was set up and once, a Police...

    Cheating on range claims-no honesty.

Perhaps that is the answer. Sellers could have a flyer with Flecc's explanation. It should be obvious that within certain broad limits,a 250 engine and 360w battery are not going to vary that much. If a particular manufacturer claims more, he should be challenged to explain why he gets more out...

    Cheating on range claims-no honesty.

This is the problem of not having throttles. I tested my bike on throttle only and got 17 miles without pedalling at all along the flat and running flat out at 15mph, both ways to compensate for the light wind. I used a 36 volt, 10 a/h battery that was just over a year old. If this Dutch bike is...

Cycle and walking 'must be norm' for short journeys

There seems to be something of this attitude in Ypres-nothing like Holland, but it seems as though they think of a bike as a pair of shoes or lawn mower, rather than any indicator of success or financial standing. But the lack of motor vehicles is nice. Not to say they don't have a rush hour...

    Ukip

I was in Bulgaria in 1961. Every time the train stopped, a gang of men and women came forward and washed the numbers painted on the sides of the coaches. I asked why they did this and was told that there was no unemployment in Bulgaria. Nor was there any dole. If you lost your job you went on...

Cycle and walking 'must be norm' for short journeys

Frankly I think that all this social engineering is a waste of time and just lets the control freak Nanny knows best, nit pickers to indulge in a moral panic. Whn they see their measures not working well enough, punishments will become more draconian. The Inquisition started quite mildly to help...

    pedelecs are cheating

Frankly, I find these sort of articles totally irrelevant. I am more than satisfied with my e-bike. It does what I want. Although I will argue hammer and tongs with Eddieo over what is a good ebike, I care nothing for the opinion of a roadie. It is rather like a dinghy sailor arguing with a...

Throttles and the other EU nations

I have, at Dunkirk at least. By mistake I drove my campervan into the HGV area. They asked why I was there and I told them that the sign for the other lane simply said cars. Anyway, even though it was still France, the UKBA gave me a right searching etc in a special shed.

Reached the limit of my brompton..

CWAH, be careful. I am not sure I have understood your problem exactly, but when a bolt snaps leaving some of itself inside the hole, it may be that the threads have stretched and it will be difficult to turn the remains. There are things called 'Stud Extractors' which have an anti clockwise...

Throttles-please can you talk me through how you use the throttle on a typical ride.

Motor cycle throttles have an adjustable friction device to keep it open if you let go.

Throttles and the other EU nations

1 When I was recently in Belgium with my throttle only 200 watt bike, I spoke to a local Police Chief that I know. He was unaware of the throttle matter and being a car driver was a bit baffled by the idea of a motor vehicle without a throttle! 2 Light pedalling on flat lands with power...

Throttles-please can you talk me through how you use the throttle on a typical ride.

My use of the throttle is to supply power to the motor because I have removed the pedelec. This means that I can fine tune the precise ratio of electric power/manual power. Torque sensors will only supply a predetermined amount of power, varying with the manual effort and in my mind are not a...

Final limit at 250 watts EU ruling

The problem is always the batteries. Use more wattage, get less mileage. If the proposed weight limit of 25 kg is enforced, then the possibilty of wiring in 2 or 3 batteries is unlikely. (Unless the 25 kg does not include the battery)

    New Presteigne Rally!

Well, There is the Thames Traditional Boat Show at Beale Park Pangbourne. Plenty of room on site for exhibits and visitor camping. In order to boost attendance, they have incorporated an old car show. One e-bike shop has exhibited there in the past.

    More winter prep

Not quite sure what you mean about the rear cable. If you are only replacing the inner wire, they are quite cheap. As for the mud!!! I was going to ask how many miles you get to a chain, but perhaps it would be better to ask how many yards.

Eddie, You go to far, We are not a bunch, we have all got desireable bikes and the proof is that lots of pople buy them. We are not bottom feeders. And, I don't like your bike one bit. Haemorrhoid saddle, handlebars too far forward and likely to cause wrist problems, no mudguards and...
