    Battery Fires

So the abuse of statistics again. "This is pretty much a NONE ISSUE. In the whole of the UK there were 183 ebike /scooter battery fires" Assume that 1 in 10 households have an eBike\Scooter for which they charge batteries. Also assume that most all households have a washing machine. So with...

People in Sheffield have spoken out against the irresponsible use of electric bikes, after a local MP raised concerns in the House of Commons.

There was some enforcement, of the illegal eBikes, in Cardiff a year or two ago. But its back to normal now with the food delivery bikes, young ninjas and eScooters zooming about with complete abandon, on the roads, shared use paths and pedestrian only areas. Without regular and very...

    Swytch motor varients

I have also actually have a Swytch kit motor. Was out earlier on it getting some chips to have with steak for supper. I note the hub motor has numbers on it, but as a mere user of the Swytch I have no idea what the numbers mean.

Maybe the guy will post on here asking for advice on fixing his bike.

    Nasty pothole

I think that is a Gotcha photo. Its evidence that the reason why we don't see workers repairing pot-holes anymore is because they have dug underground caves and gone into hiding. The photo looks like one of the workers was spotted emerging from such a hiding place, maybe to pop to Tescos for a...

    Mapdec trading standards visit

For sure, and their have been a great many impositions of regulations that have made cycling or just walking a lot safer. Car design has changed a lot, gone (for new cars) are the chrome stick out bumpers of old that seemed intended to ensure as many pedestrians and cyclists as possible were...

DOG STARTS FIRE BY CHEWING LITHIUM BATTERY

I don't like dogs at all, but what I really really really really really (x1000) hate is dog owners, who apparently love their dogs and assume every one else loves them too. You know the situation, your out over the park playing games with the kids and some dog comes bounding over to join in...

    Mapdec trading standards visit

Its a good example and gives eBike owners a practical example of the risks of eBike battery fires. The risk to the owner of a eBike battery of a fire is about the same as a cooking appliance fire. Heaps of regulations on cooking appliances of course. Food for thought.

    Mapdec trading standards visit

The total number of eBike fires might well have been 270, and cooking fires 10,500. But to compare the actual risks, you need to know how many households have electric bike batteries, we can assume most all households have cooking appliances. Lets imagine its 1 in 20 house holds have...

Want to learn to restore batteries. Where to start?

And even if they don't go as far as banning reconditioned batteries, it would be no surprise if a strict certification process of companies doing re-furb was enforced.

Want to learn to restore batteries. Where to start?

The safer way to make eBike Batteries is to use cells from the same batch, so all the cells are well matched. If one cell fails, then it is possible other cells are close to failure too. If this is a business, then carefully research how much liability insurance for such a business will cost you.

Sub £1k Commuter Ebike that is or can be easily delimited / derestricted.

Your entitled to your opinion. So you think would widespread law breaking would benefit everybody ? I strongly suspect that if say the legal speed limit of pedelecs was increased it would have less than zero improvements for "everybody, be it the environment, public safety, public health...

Sub £1k Commuter Ebike that is or can be easily delimited / derestricted.

'Mostly' on private land does not make it legal to use on the road of course. Also appreciate that riding such a bike on the public road puts your driving license at risk and of prosecution for using a vehicle without the required insurance.

Prestige supports new bill that seeks to reduce fire risk from e-bike li-ion batteries

If the insurance companies have evidence that there has been an 'increase' in insurance claims related to battery fires and its significant, then it seems entirely reasonable that improved regulation is needed. But increased premiums to meet increased payouts should only be applied to those...

Just seen this on ebay to replace your Swytch gen 2 set up

I guess its one way of making it obvious that the bike is electric and might be worth nicking.

    Review Tannus Armour Inserts

I tried the tannus inserts on my eMountain bike. Could not get them straight in the tyre which made the wheels wobble. I took them out after a couple of weeks, no plans to try them again.

    ALWAYS REPORT SCUM DRIVERS

For sure there are some drivers who are 'cyclist blind' and will mow you down directly even when you are visible in the middle of a lane. However, that would surely be a tiny tiny minority of drivers, whilst a much much larger majority of drivers will try to sneak past you if you leave them...

    ALWAYS REPORT SCUM DRIVERS

Adding stuff to the right side of you bike may well discourage cars from passing too close. However as the years have progressed, I have taken a far more safety for me approach to cycling. In a lot of roads in my area, when in paricular there are cars parked on both sides of the road, it...
