anyone have solar panels and can monitor whats is generated used and exported?

That meter looks all wrong. When I had my solar installed I had an old fashoned meter like that, though in much better physical condition. I happened to be taking a meter reading one sunny day and noticed that the meter was turning backwards. This is well known with the old fashioned wheel...

2018/2019 westhill link ebike - battery replacement

Here's the thing. The name/brand of your bike means absolutely nothing. All it probably is is a frame which has been fitted with a whole bunch of generic parts by the seller. Without pictures there is no way to know what parts it has. Even a link to the bike is not reliable as sellers often...

Seeking Advice on Affordable Ebike for 20-Mile Daily Commute (£500-£600 = Budget)

Things for you to look for: 1 Rear hub motor. Low/no maintenance, practically bullet proof for commuting. Avoid mid drives, all use proprietry batteries etc making them highly expensive to replace or ireplaceable. These will be way beyond your budget anyway. 2 Controller seperate to battery...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

20mph certainly has it's place, but the blanket application we have here in Wales is a totally confusing mess. We have been told that if you see street lights assume 20mph unless there are signs to the contrary. Fair enough in the city. Here, in rural village land, we have the spectacle of 30...

A DIY Paper E-Bike With Unusual Drive

Useless but brilliant. This is the kind of British engineering nuttery that got us places in the past. Who knows what he may stumble across?

    Brompton q70 motor

It's not a matter of voltage but the timing of the voltage pulse that is sent to the motor and anyway the pulse is far to short to register on a dvm. Running sensorless makes this timing more tricky/less accurate.

Storing battery outside in winter - what insulation?

I agree, your main problem will be condensation. Unless the shed is insulated there will be dripping condensation whether it's heated or not. I speak from experience of having a steel framed shed clad in box profile sheeting. The underside of the roof was consatantly wet in winter despite the...

    Cotroller

Yes, sell your highly illegal electric motorbike and buy an internal combustion engine legal motorbike instead. I'm not sure exactly what you're describing but it sounds like voltage sag caused by too heavy a current load being put on the battery. Which is exactly what was said would happen. I...

Any DIY battery Gurus on the forum?

No mate, that's A.C. D.C. is a very different animal. Whereas AC will likely fire you across the room, DC will hold and burn.

Why is so much illegal 'commuting' not policed ?

I have myself received a speed awareness course for 34 in a 30 limit (about 3 years ago). The friend I referred to decided to take the points rather than a course as she couldn't be arsed with another course. This was within the last 3 months. Welsh authorities have already stated that they...

Help! Recommend me a front hub motor

Have a look at Topbikekit, many motors to be had, I've just used them with no problems. Or you could talk to Woosh and get a kit to suit. For a 26 inch wheel, something specced as 250rpm will get you legal speed at 36v, however most seem to be specced as 201 or 328 rpm. However a 48v 328rpm...

    Return to the bent!

Finally, I've added a torque bracket. It's probably not needed but it's peace of mind for a few quid, I've now set the maximum speed to 30kph which seems to be giving around 18mph on the stand, so should be about right.

Why is so much illegal 'commuting' not policed ?

A friend of mine was recently fined and given points for 33 in a 30 limit, here in Wales (Ceredigion). It seems they are adopting zero tolerance and, beware, 'cos from this Sunday -17/9- all 30mph areas will be 20mph. Apart from outside my house, where there is no pavement, as the 20 limit...

    Return to the bent!

Topbikekit's own site quotes the different ratios in the motor spec. It was also on the original label on the motor. Forgot to say that the motor is around the same diameter as my biggest cassette ring (32t) and smaller than the 180mm disc. It's also smaller than the Ezee I've been using for...

    Return to the bent!

I took the bike out to Pembrey Park for a noodle round empty car parks. The loss of weight and motor diameter has made a huge difference to handling, especially at low speed. The motor is quiet and loads less vibration than the Dillinger. P1 has been set to 130 and speed registration seems to...

    Cotroller

OK, what you need to know is the maximum current capability of your battery. Not it's AmpHour rating, you've said this is 25, but it's maximum current. To suit your existing controller this should be 50-55A. To suit your proposed controller it would need to be in the region of 70A. If the...

    Return to the bent!

Thanks Nealh. The motor is a 328rpm 128H cst. They give this a gear ratio of 8.1, so is this the figure I multiply with 16 to get P1? I get this to be 129/130.

    Return to the bent!

Finally got the bike ready for a shakedown run. The box for the controller is physically rather larger than I hoped, yet was quite tight to get everything in - hence the loop of cable strapped to the frame. About three and a half miles of spiral wrap later: Battery is from my Ezee kit thats on...
