    Bosch Spider Tool alternative

The spider tool above is a bit expensive, £30, and I guess one would need to buy a wrench to plug it into, if one does not already have one. The alternative is a "double spider tool" spanner from this Italian company - just a bit over £20 via Paypal delivered to the UK. I've ordered one just...

    What lights do you use

I've been using an earlier model of the C&B Seen 1200 lumen kit, and broadly they are very good. I have some concerns about wire durability though, both on the battery and the lamp unit - I regularly store them into a rucksack pocket, and this has over the course of time resulted in wire splits...

    Smart Ebike

One of the problems with regenerative braking is that, as you become a better cyclist, you learn to foresee problems ahead, and so you start using the brakes less. Thus, something that isn't very effective to start with ends up not putting much back into the battery at all. For readers like me...

    Geo Orbital wheel

It looks pretty good to me - not the first e-bike retro-fit wheel though. I wonder what happened to the one I saw a year or two ago? Personally I like buying an ebike as a complete, tested unit, but I'd be happy for these to take off, if they are beginner friendly. The more routes we have into...

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

No, not me. I got in touch with Col in May of last year via email, and he said that I would be best getting in touch with a proper Bosch dealership. I planned to do exactly that, and then never quite got the necessary round tuit! It's been running quite lovely until this past week.

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

Eek, that's three things! I take it the spanner and the spider do the same thing? The spanner works on its own, whereas the spider needs a (torque) wrench plugged into it? If I've understood the above correctly, what does the third thing do? o_O

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

Hmm, I might get that from you. I've just "counted me teeth" and it turns out I'm running a 16-tooth sprocket, and I wouldn't mind a bit more resistance/speed. A new, identical guard should fit over that - there's a good 25mm clear on all sides. I expect I'll need a spider, then? Thirty quid...

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

Your comment encouraged me to get the bike onto the stand immediately, and whilst I rarely take a look under the cover to know what new looks like, I would be very willing to believe my battered cog needs replacing! I'll get this ordered first. Thanks! To be fair, it would be nice to have a...

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

That's a very good point, thanks - I've thought about it, and haven't got around to it. I will put the bike on the stand at the weekend, and clean it all up, so I can see the sprocket's condition. After heavy mileage (see above) it probably is due for replacement!

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

What is the purpose of two sprockets? Is the idea one can change the sprocket in use easily, in order to change ride/speed characteristics?

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

Thanks for the extra images - a chain tensioner is a good idea. Incidentally, my drive sprocket is around two inches in diameter, with probably 11 teeth - a consequence of having a Bosch central crank drive. There's not nearly as much for a chain to hang on to, compared to the full-size crank...

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

I'm not certain, but it seems OK to me - there's no appreciable slack, and pressing down on the chain gives a satisfying amount of bounce. I'm on my second chain/cassette, but I seem to recall the first one had the same problem - if the guard was off, the chain would stay on for a couple of...

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

Thanks soundwave - I don't know. Does a "bash ring" keep the chain on? The thing I have at the moment is enclosed, so presumably works against chain bounce as it tries to jump off the sprocket. I can't see how that would do the same - but happy to be wrong! My current chain stay also snaps into...

Can a Bosch Performance chain guard be purchased separately?

I'm still running a KTM Action Macina 29 (2014 model with Performance drive and Intuivia display) and have now done 4300+ miles. Aside from a couple of hiccups I've been extremely happy with it. It's probably around 18 months old now, so could probably do with a bit of TLC. Last year I...

Thinking of purchasing a Bosch Nyon for maps & change motor setting

I thought at first it was a system that came with a Bosch-equipped bike (and you probably can get bikes with Nyon fitted) but it turns out you can get it as an Intuvia upgrade as well.

Thinking of purchasing a Bosch Nyon for maps & change motor setting

I use the Bosch Intuvia system (the one before the Nyon) and that already is a bit too smart for my liking. Once I ran the battery down completely, and the system responded by locking me out until all major components (head unit, drive unit and battery) had received a software update. If...

    bike theft

These days I lock my bike up using two D-locks, each costing £30 or so - I have an Abus and a Kryptonite. Providing street furniture allows it, once through the front wheel (which is quick-release) and once through the frame. Two locks does add a fair bit to my carry weight - they go in my...

    Ebike on train

I can see why you had problems with this bike - it is a moped style vehicle. For the non-enthusiast, there is little difference between this and a petrol version, and I don't think we can reasonably expect train staff to know the difference. I think that if it looks like a bicycle, then it...
