Hi john - welcome to the forum and ebikes :) So what are your thoughts when it comes to batteries ? Ready made batteries from Chinese sources such as BMS Battery give you lots of different ah ratings , sizes and shapes . These are plug n play options with battery management system built in...

    38v ceiling?

No , that was what I thought but d8veh is the real expert here Borrow/beg/steal a multimeter from somewhere and take his advice

    38v ceiling?

But I believe op has checked the meter already for accuracy vs car battery ? Bow to your superior knowledge though !

    38v ceiling?

40.2 is too low - it should be 42v It explains why you get battery readings just under 40v Time for a new charger . What does the connector look like and we can suggest some. I'd say this is good news as a charger is far far cheaper than new batteries !

more details on the Shimano STEPS system

This has been a looong time coming Be very interesting to see how performance and prices stack up against Bosch / Panasonic And how/if shimano entry to the market changes things 1000 charge cycles without loss I'm a little sceptical

    Lights again

Could it be you choose high or low LM by the voltage you run through it ? Might be clever circuit.that chooses 500lm if 10v or under and high if over (for example)? Seems doubtful

    Lights again

Hi/lo = on/off I've seen far worse Chinese to English translations online You could argue on/off is just an extreme definition of hi/lo .....not sure I will though

Best helmet IF you want one?

Unless you have a pea head - I can easily fit a something like a deck of cards between the helmet and the sides of my head - the adjustment is more front to back

    £300 budget for kit improvement

Thanks d8veh I veering towards a ku93 ( cutting back shunt) and 36v bottle battery (with 3s booster) to get my 48v I'll have a look at the 128h - might be guinea pig for that one Edit - ahh that one is rear only, no good for me as I have hub gears

Best helmet IF you want one?

One word of warning on the lidl one - it's no good if you have a extra small, bald, pea head like me - just too big ! Perfectly good otherwise

    £300 budget for kit improvement

Question for you D8veh having put a little more thought into it (and whilst i wait for BMS to get back to me on the sine wave/ sensorless motor point) If I were to get a ku93 (36v version, 20a) and run 48v through it then, I think, this would have same effect as the 48v 20a battery sinewave...

Best helmet IF you want one?

I got one of these in a car boot sale for 4 quid (a black one with the visor missing) . If it gets really really cold this winter I'll be commuting in it ! http://momohelmets.com/products/fighter-classic-red-frost

    Wanted THORN RESISTANT INNER TUBE

I spend the money on the tyres not the tubes (such as marathon plus) Or is this in addition to puncture proof tyres ?

Best helmet IF you want one?

The honest answer is a properly fitted one. The most expensive in the world is hopeless if ill fitting I suggest you go to a couple of reputable bike shops , talk to the staff, try a few on and then make your decion based on a good, comfortable fit I am a firm believer in helmets - I've...

What's the best maintenance free bike?

Absolutely agree with mike on hub gears. In particular the shimano alfine 8 has proved itself to be all but bullet proof. Far more do than the nexus series or the alfine 11. Mine has lasted 4.5 years of 5 days a week commuting in rain or sun in a salt air environment (South Coast of England) As...
