Prices of the electricity we use to charge

Bing AI and ChatGPT don't seem to be good on reasoning. There is a lot of hype around what these systems can do. The weaknesses are usually revealed by the competition, in this case, Google Gemini. A couple of weeks ago, I watched a very impressive YT demo of Gemini. It turns out that the video...

    BMS Balancing "optional"

look between the heastsink and the PCB. There are about a dozen of them, about the size of a TO220 but without individual heatsinks. I don't know what they are without drilling off the rivets and remove the heatsink.

    BMS Balancing "optional"

this is a typical BMS: you can see the thermistor, the soft switch wires The old bleed resistors disappeared, in their place, a dozen small plastic thingies in plastic cases: The heatsink is riveted. The whole thing is supposed to be replaced, not repaired.

    Same Motor, Different Power Rating

I concur with Sturmey: I order TSDZ2B from Tongsheng. I tell them what I want (48V, 250W), they make it and guarantee it. It may be the same physical motor that they make for other vendors who claim 500W or 750W but may differ in their settings. That's between Tongsheng and those vendors.

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

That will be all western ice car manufacturers. They are selling into a smaller market place with prices above and performance under electric cars. Apparently, some companies offer to convert your car to electric in a day.

    Another E-bike Fire

Sam Evans on his YT channel posted a video of the newest Chinese Geely's cheap EV ($10,000?, 800km range), in which the 100kWH battery got removed, then placed into a freezer at -25C for two days then placed in a burning room for 4 hours. The battery is then put back in the car and the car...

    BMS Balancing "optional"

not really. Although I don't know the details, I have read some articles about active balancing. You can figure out how that works from reading. I have noticed that bleed resistors disappeared, the BMSes get smaller and smaller, now no bigger than a couple of square inches at most. The balancing...

    BMS Balancing "optional"

They switch small amounts of charge to those less full cells, a bit like a waterwheel, instead of wasting the excess through bleeding resistors. As it's done automatically at any depth of charge, the mechanism is not limited to the CV charging time. The mechanism is faster and wastes less energy.

some have active balancing. You don't need to do anything.

    Converting Carrera Subway 2

it's the PAS that acts as a switch in all the usual torque sensors. The TS signal is inhibited by the PAS while the torque signal will control the current according to the selected riding mode. I think you and Mechaniker have more in common than your apparent tribes - cadence and torque. Both of...

    Woosh Going headless

it's all waterproof cabling. The simplest solution is to ask Andy to supply a 5-pin extension lead. Cut the plug off and strip the wires. Check with a multitester before joining the on/off wires.

    Converting Carrera Subway 2

I keep Sunrace 8-speed 11T-28T freewheels. The OP had originally 9-speed cassette, so either he buys a 7-speed shifter and put up with 13T sprocket or 9-speed freewheel and a freewheel tool with thin wall. BTW, what do you think of Mechaniker's torque sensor that he builds into the freehub?

    Converting Carrera Subway 2

you need 11T or 12T sprocket on 8/9/10-speed freewheels for a more relaxed cruising at 15mph. 7-speed freewheel has 13T on the smallest rear sprocket. The error the OP made was to buy a motor with thread for a freewheel instead of a freehub.
