    Bicycle Alarm system?

That looks good. It's USB charging so if the socket in the alarm/light is difficult to access it's going to be better to install it with the USB fly lead permanently connected. Use a cable clip or two to fix it to the frame.

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

It's a very innovative rental scheme that they have on the Trégor peninsular north of Lannion on the Côte de Granit Rose (Pink Granite Coast). All the tourist offices have bikes for rent & you can also rent a trailer to carry your kids or your dog. They give you a helmet & gilet jaune & reckon...

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

These are the bikes we rented for the very reasonable price of €12/day (€55/week). This is a stock photo so it's not us in the picture:) They are well featured with centre stand, basket & built in lock. Very comfortable to ride & tackled the steep hills on the north Brittany coast easily.

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

I wish we had seen that 2 for £995 deal. My partner & I were sold on ebikes after we rented a couple in Brittany last year. Those were Dutch-style step through, hub gears & front wheel hub drives with a cadence sensor. We had our flat handlebar hybrid road bikes converted but we both prefer the...

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

Apologies I must have missed it among the sea of bikes with a red SOLD OUT banner splashed across them. I guess the only way to resolve this is to contact them:)

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

I'm guessing that is just an orphaned web page they haven't removed. If you look on the home page the Safari isn't listed & most every other model is indicated as sold out. I'm pretty sure if such a well specified bike were available at just £695 it would have been selling like hot cakes at...

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

A front hub conversion is the easiest to do & the bike can easily be returned to standard if necessary.

When it comes to bike components I think "expensive" is relative :) . A replacement Gates belt costs £22-£72 while you can pay considerably more than that for a saddle or wheel. https://hollandbikeshop.com/en-gb/bicycle-parts-city-bike/bicycle-chain/v-belt-belt-drive/

The tale of a £100 second hand electric bike.

The industry rules are that if you are within the last 49 days of a contract that you can switch without penalty which applies to all suppliers.

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

I was thinking more in terms of work & hassle. I could just take that bike to Woosh & have them fit an electric front hub. I also think it could be very problematic building your own belt drive bike so it’s much easier to take one where all the geometry & tensioning is already correct.

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

It's interesting to know the original price was £699 but £200/250 is a rather low offer. From the photos the bike looks to be in 'as new' condition with just 97 miles on the clock. As long as Woosh can supply a new battery if required then I think that I'll take a look at the bike & decide about...

Can you supply a new battery & how much would a new battery cost me?

Why so few hub geared bikes with belts ? Looking at Kalkhoff

I think that a better way of spending £1500 would be to spend £1049 on a complete Dutch-style bicycle with belt drive & hub gears & then add an electric front wheel (thanks to Woosh for this suggestion) https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Bergamont-Vitess-N8-Belt-Amsterdam-2020-Touring-Bike_218833.htm

The Rambla would be perfect for me if it had hub gears & a front hub drive. It looks like my only option at present is to do a conversion. Brilliant! I live in North Essex so it’s not far. I will check it out. Thanks.

That Sundowner looks great. I would definitely be in the market for something similar. I am a really big fan of the Dutch-style "plodder" that perfectly suits my leisure cycling. My ideal would be step through Duty-Style swept back bars with hub gears & a belt drive & powered by the front hub...

Recommend me an iPhone holder for middle of handlebars

I've recorded my first route using the Bikemap app. Pretty cool. https://www.bikemap.net/en/r/6373842/#11.23/51.9705/0.9762 I've ordered another mount for my partner's bike so she can record routes etc when she goes out for a ride on her own.

Recommend me an iPhone holder for middle of handlebars

Just to confirm that I purchased the Quad Lock & case along with a waterproof "poncho" that slides over the case. It's beautifully made & works perfectly albeit at a price. The phone is held rigidly & the screen is easy to see while riding. I have so far used the Bikemap app & Google Maps. Both...

Recommend me an iPhone holder for middle of handlebars

Thanks for the link but that appears to require you to have the phone permanently in a case that then clips onto the bike. I already have phone in a silicone protective case & was looking for something like the Brodit dashboard mount that I have in the car that securely holds the phone. On...
