    Migrant workers

I don't know what people complain about the price of food in the UK or what other countries they compare to but UK food is the cheapest in Europe mostly due to the supermarkets totally screwing their suppliers on price.

    Migrant workers

UK consumers are not prepared to pay a fair price for food. Food prices have been driven down enormously over the last 50-60 years. The proportion of the household budget that is spent on food is a fraction of what it was while housing costs are many times what they were.

New Zealand has a population of under 5 million with a land area the size of the United Kingdom. Their policy could not be applied to the UK & is probably not sustainable in any case unless they cut themselves off from the rest of the world for the next 18 months until a vaccine is available.

    Cycling. Health. Covid. Diet.

I've been taking quite large doses of Vitamin D all winter as there is reasonable evidence that with lack of sunshine in the UK we are all deficient & there is moderate evidence of boosting immune system & fighting off respiratory viruses. This may account for the fact that when I developed...

Males are twice as likely to die from COVID-19 as females & 35% of those who dies are non-white. Not much to be done about of those risk factors but those who are overweight are twice as likely to die from COVID-19 as those with a BMI of less than 25.

    Skies are clear

I don't think a few of the super rich swanning around in their private jets causes much of a nuisance. It's all the people having holidays in Thailand or Sri Lanka or Disneyland causing the pollution.

    Brompton Nano conversion

Are you sure all your local bike shops are shut? Bicycle shops are among the businesses specifically allowed to stay open as they offer an essential service. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/24/uk-bicycle-shops-and-repairers-see-a-surge-in-business-during-coronavirus-lockdown

    Skies are clear

That list is not accurate by any means. A handful of heavily polluted cities do have such a scheme eg Athens but is restricted to a very small area of the city centre. It's a complete lie to include Paris, Oslo, Milan, Rome etc in that list as they do not have any form of permanent...

That's a bit hypocritical considering the long list of bicycles in your .sig:) How many do you need for goodness sake?

    length of lockdown?

We need to have some perspective. The chances of any of us dying from COVID-19 are only about the same as dying of any cause over the next 12 months. About 600,000 people die every year in the UK. That's around 1700-1800 deaths per day at this time of year. There may be 1000 deaths per day of...

    Lockdown

It's not the excess annual death rate that's the issue although this could be anywhere between zero & 600K. The problem is having that excess annual death rate all in the next month or two. The lockdown isn't about saving lives although that's how it's interpreted by many. The lockdown is...

    Lockdown

The significant demographics mentioned in the report on COVID-19 ICU admissions in the UK were 35% non-white, 75% male & 75% obese.

    Ebikes

It might be sensible to have a sunset clause but that isn't what it says on the page I linked to. The extension is for 6 months from the date your MOT is due if it's due after 30th March 2020 not just extended to 30th September 2020. It specifically gives the example that if your MOT expires on...

    Ebikes

If your MOT is due on or after Monday 30th March 2020 then the expiry will be automatically extended by 6 months. This means that your car will have a valid MOT & there is nothing for the insurance company to quibble over. The MOT on one of my cars was due to expire on 4th April so I took it in...

Putting e-bike to bed for the duration of C-virus.

There are about 600K deaths in the UK each year so the true number of people dying each week is about 11.5K. People do die from single causes eg MI, asthma, pneumonia, intracranial haemorrhage etc etc

How reassuring for anyone with an underlying health condition as common as eg high blood pressure.

Putting e-bike to bed for the duration of C-virus.

FFS where do you get your ridiculously stupid figures from? If 14,000 people die every day 365 x 14,000 = 5,110,000. Do you really thing over 5 million people die every year out of a population of 65 million? Your numbers don't add up. The issue as I posted earlier is not necessarily the...

Putting e-bike to bed for the duration of C-virus.

You obviously don't understand what is going on & your numbers are nonsense eg 14,000 x 365 = 5,110,000 deaths per year. There are not 5 million deaths per year. The real annual death rate is about 600,000. The issue isn't really the disease itself which is like a particularly nasty 'flu with...
