    Yamaha Electric Moped has bombed

    I'd give 'em £300 for the Yamaha. That's a tidy mark-up ;)

Have you given the dropouts a check after running several miles without ? With that sort of power .....

    Yamaha Electric Moped has bombed

That battery is way too small to be of any real use apart from popping to the shop and back. The thing about electric mopeds (especially heavy ones like that) is that they are permanently in use on throttle-only without any pedal assist and so for a 1400W peak bike the consumption is going to be...

    LIfePO4 Warning!

Really sorry to read about this - must have been an absolutely horrendous experience. I think if you want to warn others the best thing for you to do is to name the seller who you bought the battery/charger off. Cannot see any reason why you should not, especially with proviso that the cause...

    CST - it's all working

Home again after a month away (during which time I gather it's pretty much been raining non-stop in Devon !). Pumped up the tyres, cleaned & oiled the chain, opened up the box to check everything (all wiring looked perfect) and took the bike out for 1st spin down to the beach this afternoon...

Is it a bicycle or a motorbike?

Front suspension forks, XTR drivetrain, disc brakes (hydraulic ?) and knobbly tyres. Considerably better specified than a load of retail eBikes in the £2,000 - £3,000 mark which get dongled up to over 30mph, surely ? Battery is incredibly ugly but presumably this bike was accessibly priced ?

I think this is a cracking bike but what am I missing?

It's definitely not down to the motor or the battery, both of which are perfectly capable of far exceeding that performance. I felt on both occasions I tested an Impulse bike with the Nuvinci Harmony that it just doesn't cut the mustard and would not be a bike to choose for steep climbing...

Forum members everywhere emit sigh of relief ... been like waiting for the final episode of 'Breaking Bad' ! Good result all round - Now go try some other eBikes :)

    Switzerland allows 500watt e-bikes

To follow a point made by shemozzle999 on the recent Kalkhoff BS thread - if that thread was to be moved (as it has been) to the UK off-road, S-Pedelecs and Overseas section of the site then if ever there was a thread which should be in that section then this must surely be it ! I trust it...

If it was the automatic shifting version it's hardly the rider's choice what gear they were riding in. Perhaps the problem is similar to the one which left d8veh stuck in high gear at the NEC show with an automatic Nuvinci hub ? A fix was found for that, down to bike not set up properly.

    Switzerland allows 500watt e-bikes

A 500W e-Bike would still need to be restricted to 25 km/h if it's getting in to the 'bicycle' category. But this is tailor-made for long, very steep hills and addresses a problem no 250W commercially available eBike can deal with adequately. Even the best ones will only manage them at any...

    Fault finding help

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will help with the testing - but do you mean one of the 3 phase wires leading from the controller to the motor that come with bullet connectors covered in clear plastic covers ?

What full suspension frame is suitable for mounting this battery in?

It's longer and thinner than the fat-brick Li-Ion ones (210 L, 155 W, 90 D) but my guess is that the width may still be the critical dimension with this one, especially when you try to support and stabilize it without risking damaging the cells banging against the frame... it's 8cm wider so will...

^^ I think I have a pretty good handle on the relevant elements of the current legislation to be fair, and I'm certain that Dave does. This is a new Member's thread and not meant to be hijacked for the purposes of spelling out yet again what has been spelled out endlessly on the forum over many...

Love this - glad I don't have to cycle in NYC

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzE-IMaegzQ Final clip is a masterpiece ! If he's got any sense he'll hurt himself a bit, hire an ambulance chaser & sue the City (and NYPD) for damages. Seeing as everyone seems to sue everyone else over everything in the States !

Seems obvious to me ... no bike (itself) is illegal. Bikes can only be ridden illegally and that is something over which a retailer has no control. Kudos Dave - once again you've used this thread as a soap box to vent your commercial frustrations, which is most disappointing. The simple fact...

    100A controllers - too much ?

Came across this rather amusing vid on Youtube. These guys are running a 160A controller limited to 100A on a Kona Stinky with 24" wheels. The hilarious test results suggest it may be a bit too much ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dU8Mmqfmiqk#t=388

What full suspension frame is suitable for mounting this battery in?

Assuming you're not rear-mounting, if it's one of the fat brick designs, you're going to struggle to accommodate that battery in a full-sus frame. Many modern mountain bike / hybrid frames struggle to (or can't) take it. Carrera Krakens are hardtails. LiPo packs are likely much easier to work...

I haven't come to any such assumption. I am stating the simple fact that there are undoubtedly considerably more KTM bikes being ridden illegally (and covertly) on the roads with the aid of Bosch dongle installations than Kalkhoff Endeavours, which are appropriately built for such speed and...

As you're no doubt well aware it is not possible to register S-Pedelecs in the UK and insurance is also impossible. This has been very extensively discussed on Pedelecs so not going to make a point of that here but suffice to say buyers appear to be well aware of this. Equally non-road legal...
