    Testing/Fixing Cree T6 battery packs

I've just looked up about the tabs and seems I'd need a tab welder to fix them back : Battery Tab Welding | Model Flying So am I right in thinking I cannot charge the individual cells any other way than removing the tabs to allow them to be individually charged and then having a special tool...

    5 year Bosch Battery Guarantee

Basically means you get about £140 off a replacement battery if your original one fails in yrs 3-5 and no saving if you take a 25% discount off a 2nd battery to use in yrs 1-2 and one of your batteries fails in yrs 3-5. Or in other words ball-park about the same saving as you'd get ordering a...

    Cree xml headlight/bike light

^^ they are very good lights but the cheaper ones suffer some downsides : - connectors between battery pack & lamp are very poor quality loose fit. It's worth cutting them off both battery pack and lamp & soldering on either end of one of these which are proper waterproof 'click to make'...

    Testing/Fixing Cree T6 battery packs

I've got a 2 channel 3.7V charger for 18650 batteries from Ultrafire which charges cells to 4.2V and then cuts off... but you have to insert the cells into the slots - which I guess means dismantling the whole pack and unsoldering all the tabs / PCB ? Is dismantling the pack the only way to do...

    Readings doing that are as above : 1st & 2nd - 3.77V 3rd & 4th - 4.22V

    Testing/Fixing Cree T6 battery packs

OK a horizontal strip at the bottom of the 3 joined strips forming a U-shaped tab attached to the 4 cells - I still don't understand how it works as far as what is +ve / what is -ve on the horizontal strip or why the tabs are like that. 2 of the cells in a vertical stack under the PCB are...

    Testing/Fixing Cree T6 battery packs

The ends of the pack are on the original photos : http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/15772-testing-fixing-cree-t6-battery-packs.html#post195426 The PCB is here : I've put the multimeter probes on either end of the actual individual cells to the side of the contact strips as...

    Testing/Fixing Cree T6 battery packs

Perhaps this one is different ? See pics in post 10 ... trying to work out where to actually poke the multimeter pins. I'm assumin if the individual cells are 3.7V but the pack voltage is twice that then it's effectively 2 strings of 2 cells per string. Is that right ? 1st time I've actually...

    Testing/Fixing Cree T6 battery packs

Yup - arrived today. Many thanks both. Btw ... I just recharged the unmended pack and voltage reading 8.05 which doesn't look right. It should be 8.4V I think ? How do I test voltage of individual cells without shorting anything or blowing myself up ? :)

    Testing/Fixing Cree T6 battery packs

Think I've found the problem .... the inner insulation on the insulated 22AWG wires within the charge receiving / power out lead are badly frayed where they exit the outer insulation leading to the battery PCB P+ / P- contacts. This was at the point where the wiring exited the battery pack...

    Testing/Fixing Cree T6 battery packs

Well, d8veh has kindly fixed the dodgy soldering on 1st pack and it's working fine again. I'm back near my tools now so going to try to test / fix the 2nd pack. Would appreciate some guidance. Here are some photos of the pack opened up ... - Pack is marked 7.4V / 4400mAh - individual cells are...

Update from Eddie, comment on KTM-Panasonic.

^^ which is interesting because BionX is such an expensive system to run. Consumable battery costs in particular for example. It's so often only when something new comes along that you begin to hear systems which were so widely applauded and defended being slated !

    Selling and Buying Second-hand e-bikes

I tend to ask relevant questions and form a balanced view based on the responses obtained and I'm sure there are sellers out there who do know how to look after batteries. However much misrepresentation and hanky panky goes on with eBay, not every seller lies about everything they sell and most...

    Selling and Buying Second-hand e-bikes

I agree with flecc's point above on battery amortization assumptions on heavily used commuter bikes - similar to fleet cars in a way, they get hammered and battery will exhaust much faster. This is something which is pretty easy to determine from a lifetime mileage check (on bikes which have...

    2nd hand bike values

Or you do things the old fashioned way and sell it locally. Having lots of similar bikes up for sale at the same time puts me off personally. I really think eBay & Gumtree are not the right places to sell higher end crank drive bikes. Aside from the peculiar Brompton anomaly, the highest prices...

    2nd hand bike values

^^ The "where any choice might really end" was more from the perspective of 2nd hand bike values ... the market will ultimately tell but with so many new ones to choose from for a new purchaser, I didn't hold out as much confidence in these remaining high for buyers looking to keep the bikes for...

    Cold

Middle of the day today in Devon and happily still comfy in shorts, fingerless mitts, short-sleeved base layer + long sleeved smartwool top. It felt warmer out than in early September. Only the >20mph winds on the coastal clifftops laden felt a bit raw - so what to do but leave bike at the top &...

Average age 55,imagine if the average age was 15!!!

Trouble round here is they are almost all windy single lane with very limited forward visibility on the way down and passing places. Meet a tractor or a Tesco delivery van coming the other way round a corner when you're on a fast descent and chances are you're strawberry jam by the time you...

    2nd hand bike values

Perhaps for some flush retirees - but I couldn't easily afford £2,700 (it crippled me to buy the bike and only bought it having given up my car), whereas I could have afforded £1,725 comfortably when I bought it. It's also an 11sp - and there are some who understand what that means in terms of...

Do You Wear Full Face Helmet?

That was pretty much exactly where I low-sided my Trek (at low speed coming out of a huge pothole I didn't really see coming properly) before re-jigging it to balance the bike weight, having unhelmeted head thrown against a brick wall in March. Exercising my right to bash my head without a...
