    2nd hand bike values

Interesting as that's pretty much exactly the figure I had in mind as a fair one to buyer & seller going at it 'non-scientifically' ! Can you explain the commodity replacement product thing a bit more ? Don't quite understand what that means ... there are no bikes of that brand listed with...

    2nd hand bike values

It is a symptom of our throwaway culture and not just at the top end of the market ! Many people would like a Bosch/Impulse/Panasonic quality bike in the upper space between £2kand £3k space with high end components but entry level ones are at the top of their budget. The recent 2nd hand market...

    2nd hand bike values

Lots of interesting stuff on here - thanks. The valuation method probably brings in a 2nd hand valuation of about £1,950. The battery cost is not as big of a % of the original price as many other bikes but 3 yrs is conservative depending on how heavily the bike is used. A conditioned Kalkhoff...

Be great to hear your verdict especially as against Endeavour :).

    2nd hand bike values

Seem to remember flecc posting up a useful thread on how to value 2nd hand bikes but can't find it :( ... would appreciate being pointed in right direction ! No idea what is a reasonable asking price for 2nd hand eBikes. Time has come to start moving on and always planned to sell my Kalkhoff...

    Hydraulic disc brakes

I've got M765 Shimano XT hydraulic brakes on my Trek which I guess are now very good value as they've been superseded several times. Shifters are integrated though so might be tricky to swap over on some bikes. They work very well. My rim brakes are hydraulic too so probably less of a difference...

    Average speed.

Over longer distances or with hills / traffic that's upper end average for a standard 250W bike without racing it.

^^ that's German law with an express prohibition not English Law. Once again because they know they cannot get enough evidence to prove guilt without it. It's also far more than illogical, it's completely preposterous - like so much of transport regulations. Sounds more and more like road...

Not as strong I don't think .. there has to be proof on the TV licence thing. You have to be shown to have had TV or receiving equipment plugged in to be at fault (which is not difficult as there is monitoring equipment which can demonstrate it). Guilt can only be proven with evidence. Granted...

It's only unpowered that "high speeds" are obtained. In the context of the 35mph example above, this is only going to happen on most 500W bikes when gravity has taken the bike above speeds at which the motor is making any contribution at all. Road bikes will be going much faster on the same...

As to the lack of easing up, this goes back to the very point I made which is that the law provides no ability to register vehicles in the 'space' between mopeds and restricted eBikes and it is this category of where lightly regulated bikes are of most interest to those of us who don't want...

I can't speak for anyone else but wouldn't mind those restrictions at all, including use of a full face helmet (a motorbike one is ridiculously over the top for a 45 kph bicycle). In the States where higher powered bikes are common, DH-type helmets are also common. I don't use designated cycle...

Who is blaming the EU ? In most of Europe, people just go ahead and ride derestricted eBikes if they want to and no-one cares to make a big moral song & dance about it. Especially Eastern and Southern Europe, with the possible exception of Malta. I think it's more likely that only in Germany...

It's the disability-led thinking which is at fault here. I am in no way knocking the need to have beaurocracy-free eBikes for elderly/infirm. However I cannot stand by and allow sports cyclists to be considered a superior breed with special dispensation to travel faster on the roads than others...

    Kudos Arriba 25MPH ;-)

No, not necessarily. I do not see why having huge bulging steroid-driven thighs entitles you to cycle at 20-60mph "and that's OK because you can" but when someone is assisted to do the same it requires a driving licence because some beaurocrat says it must. Makes no sense at all. Being able to...

    Kudos Arriba 25MPH ;-)

Not necessarily. Riding a utility bike loaded with stuff at over 15mph can still be hard work. As to taking hills at the same speed you would ride a road bike on the flat - why not ? :) When eBikes start removing the downsides of unassisted cycling (significant speed reduction on climbs)...

 ... oh dear ... Better start investing in some knee and elbow pads if this keeps up !

    Kudos Arriba 25MPH ;-)

I think to be honest, the vast majority of people who might use an eBike for commuting any distance are put off by the 15mph cutoff. Having this on short distance utility bikes is one thing (and a grand+ is a lot to pay for something of that limited use and a limited battery life) but for...
