    Wisper 905SE Brake advice needed

Yep. (oh and welcome to the unofficial London Wisper club ;)! ) Basically e-bike brake levers have a little microswitch in them to tell the motor to stop when you pull the lever, ordinary bike brake levers do not. So you are limited to brake levers from Wisper if you want to keep this feature...

    Li-ion or LiFePo

Yes I'd forgotten about the blade connector types...my old Wisper uses a IEC "kettle" plug on a fly lead, nice and easy for me to provide the correct connectors. Those blade connectors do present a problem. Still a different form factor that fits in the hole better would help. Of course this is...

E-bike as mobility aid - advice please

Yes there's the Cyclone kit (as mentioned above), but you'd still need to exceed the 250W legal maximum, and the kit doesn't have the best reputation. To convert a normal bike and have enough power it might be the best bet though. (do some searches here to find it). Having just come back from...

    Li-ion or LiFePo

Too true :D I keep meaning to ask Li Ping if he can make me long thing 36V15Ah that'll fit in my Wisper. I think he can if my assumptions about the size of the Ping pouches are correct. I'd end up with a long (approx 450mm) battery (so only for tall people as it'd limit how far you can get...

    Li-ion or LiFePo

Actually if you look on Endless Sphere you'll see that the A123 cells from DeWalt tools are highly sought after for e-bikes. True the low capacity makes them awkward to build into sufficiently large AH packs, but they make up for that with a very high (for LiFePO4) C rating. This makes them more...

    A ray of hope?

You already do, in most cars there's no such thing as an accelerator cable, it's all controlled by the engine computer, you merely request more or less acceleration... There's already computer controlled transport in daily use, try talking to the driver on the Docklands Light Railway.

    Wisper anomaly

No the change in battery light is expected, if the motor is cut, then the load on the battery is cut and so changes voltage, hence the lights change. Is the motor labouring when it cuts? The other thing I can think of is a dodgy connection somewhere, this would cause the motor to cut out, but...

    Wisper anomaly

I do believe you've got it! Definitely sounds like the pedelec sensor. I had a similar problem once. Just needed to bend the sensor back into a better position.

    A ray of hope?

Interesting thought that. My own thoughts are that with "autonomous" vehicles starting to appear (at least in the military world), we might eventually end up with hybrid mass/personal transport. i.e. a car that is able to hop on to a "train" for longer journeys. Cars that can drive themselves...

    A ray of hope?

Ok I'll try battering some physical laws in a totally and completely untheoretical and impractical way. ;) Hydrogen can be thought of as a substance that stores energy, that can be released for example in a fuel cell or IC type engine. Petrol is similar, a liquid that stores...

    Wisper anomaly

Slightly off topic but... By the sound of the it the lights on my 2007 Wisper are a bit more informative. There's about 10 of them arranged like a car speedo, they turn off one by one as the load increases or as the battery runs down. (It looks a bit like a rev counter in reverse) Great for...

What gears do you actually use?

Well I haven't changed the megarange, but yes I have changed the chainring. It's now a 32T with 110mm cranks! Did someone say something about hamsters ??:D The consequence of this for the Wisper is that (when my knee doesn't hurt too much) when I actually pedal it's almost perfectly geared...

What gears do you actually use?

Interesting you should say that as I saw a thread on ES the other day featuring a Suzhou Bafang hub that had the power cable coming out of a plate on the side of the hub rather than through the axle. This should allow solid, stronger axle than the current hollow ones.

What gears do you actually use?

I'm going to be an renegade here and say that I love the first on the Megarange! It's the only thing that gets me and the 2 year old (who weighs as much as a 3 year old) up the final 100yds of Highgate Hill. It'd be nice to have a 1.5gear though as the difference between 1 and 2 can be a bit too...

    Decent bike with off-road option

The bit about "be correctly wired for the UK" may be correct for some bikes though, as you put the fix in for my Wisper (well your old Wisper) ;) Theoretically there could be one or two uncorrected German Wispers out there. (But the fix is documented on this forum and is easy to do! And I'm...

    Wisper 905SE City: 3 weeks report :)

Yes, the range statistics really can vary wildly depending on all sorts of factors. This is why I like the approach Wisper has taken in quoting the range, where they tell you exactly how they tested it, from there you can make a guess at how it might perform for you.

    Wisper 905SE City: 3 weeks report :)

Well I believe Wisper has been looking at super improved BMS for their next battery. I think David mentioned something about a serial interface where you can read off things like number of charges and discharges, charge amounts etc.

    Wisper 905SE City: 3 weeks report :)

Short Answer: B). Medium Answer: Basically batteries don't like deep discharge so if you charge them after every journey (if possible) that will limit how much you discharge them and prolong the life. So B) Long Answer: Ideally batteries don't really like being 100% charged either (though...

    Which kit?

The law doesn't say anything about voltage, it just says that the output power must be "250W", and it doesn't say if this is peak power or average power. So 48V should be fine. Though I suspect if you started using 240V then it might be frowned upon :D
