    Li-ion or LiFePo

Terry you might want to read Flecc's post again... Li-Ion refers to Lithium Ion ..... ALL the "lithium" batteries we talk about are Lithium Ion it's the way they work. LiPo usually means Lithium Polymer i.e. the method of construction rather than the chemistry. Unless they are confusing...

    Rush Trek

Sorry to hear of your loss Bob, and equally sorry to see you "lurking" rather than taking the more active role you used to. It was your very detailed and supportive replies to my enquiries that helped me take the plunge into the world of e-biking! Cheers Steve

    Modifying e-bike

Motion, Well the rules say something like the bike can only assist up to 15mpg, and different bikes behave in different ways when you get up to that magic 15mph. Some have lots of power at 15mph and none at 15.1mph (not exact numbers but you get the picture), others start dropping off the...

    Modifying e-bike

Motion, Was that you I chatted to on the Holloway Road yesterday? If so you'll have seen what a 2007 Wisper can do as compared to your Milan2. Last week I was in a similar position next to a Synergie Mistral. That costs in that 599-650 range, and it was JUST a tad faster than my Wisper...

I've got a creak in my cranks!

Yea definitely seems unusual. On my 07 Wisper the cranks are normal square taper, requiring no special tools unless you count the crank extractor. The bottom bracket however is much longer than normal and asymetirical. This is primarily due to the width of the rear wheel/motor combination...

I've got a creak in my cranks!

I'm a bit confused by this one. As you've worked out the creak is 99% likely coming from your crank. And, your crank is now duff (due to the deformation of the bolt hole), so you'll need to replace it one of these days. However the magnet disc bit confuses me. My impression was that...

    Help with electrics please

0.41 etc !?! That seems very low. In fact not really registering at all. What scale did you have the meter on? Good news that the motor started. It means that it might work at some point. On the throttle I'd expect: black/red = 5V (or 12V) black/(green or yellow) = 1V to 4V depending...

    Help with electrics please

For the throttle: Switch your meter to DC say 20V range. Connect probes to the throttle wires in pairs Red & green, red & blue etc...see what it says. Try turning the throttle. (don't worry about negative readings)... For the 3 motor wires: Switch the meter to AC say 40V or above range...

    Help with electrics please

Now THAT looks even more like the controller in my '07 Wisper! If it is the same you want to leave the blue wires open circuit (i.e. don't connect them together). The brake cutoffs also need to be open circuit. The orange wire you can ignore. YOU GOT IT TO RUN BACKWARDS!?!?!?! That's...

    Help with electrics please

OK I'll have a stab in the dark.... :D Another thing to check (which has already been mentioned) is the brake switch leads. Your controller looks like mine (though I suspect they're all similar), and on that these are the blue & black wires with the black connectors on the end. In your...

A vision of the future of cycling in London

Yes I have a bit haven't I? (No I haven't really, I just suspended my disbelief for a brief moment of insanity! :p ) Seriously from your experience of Holland, it seems clear to me now that we do need cycle dual carriage ways. Where? Well on those nice wide bus lanes that the droopy one...

A vision of the future of cycling in London

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to sample the traffic this morning as a bad neck is troubling me. (I got the delights of the Northern line instead!) However, do we not think that as cycle traffic increases then maybe we'll sort out some sort of informal rules to govern cyclists e.g...

    Magura Brakes

... you have to add the microswitch yourself to the outside of the lever I'm afraid. Although lots of people on this site reckon the motor cut offs are actually uneccessary. (I don't agree myself).

    New wisper bike models........

Unless you really like the 2009 version for some reason, why not just build a battery connector converter? (That's a bit of a mouthful!) I'm sure David and Norman would help you out with the required parts. Seems a bit much to change the bike just to get a different battery connector!

Is this a useful and novel 24v battery?

A number of people on endless-sphere have used power tool packs very successfully. Generally though more than one is used to get sufficient current. (They're fairly cheap in the US, but as usual we don't get access to the cheap deals in Europe :( ) The packs usually used are Bosch 36V Lithium...

    My new Ping Battery

Indeed, if that was the case then the battery would very probably be extremely damaged. As Rog says it's most likely a broken connection. (Lithium batteries must not be discharged below a minimum voltage otherwise damage results, so a completely flat battery would be very serious). In any...

Why no Lithium Iron Phosphate on Wispers/Ezee/Other bikes?

Well aside from the fact that it's relatively new and untried (in comparison to the other Lithium technologies in use), I can think of the following DISADVANTAGES of LiFePO4: 1) Bulk/Weight. For the same capacity you need a bigger, heavier battery compared to existing Lithium technologies...

    New Wisper 905 SE Sport

Years ago when driving into Salford, I saw a sign it said: "DANGER! City of Salford KEEP OUT!" At the time [living & working in Manchester] I thought it was very apt. And OK it was next to a building site. (The saying at the time was "Salford where the dogs go round in twos...") ;)...

Wanted: New battery for my eZee Torque

Wayne, As you are US based you probably have a better selection of DIY battery choices than we do! The site that is most into this is www.endlesssphere.com (ES) which is mostly US focussed. I believe that the YESA is reasonably well respected on ES. The thing you might have to watch...

    Much needed advice please!

Although they won't quote it in their official specs, many e-bikes are solid enough to take a good weight. Wisper 905 springs to mind just ask David the MD of Wisper (Wisper Bikes on this forum)! Some of the Powacycle and Powabyke ranges look pretty robust too. In fact so do the some of the...
