    bike advice needed..

The Tornado would be fine with your weight. I have a Tornado and am about the same weight You'll soon lose a few kg once you get cycling again regularly.

Bear with me, still new here

That's how many of the Chinese bikes behave, I don't think that's how Wisper used to work but I have no experience of the new ones.

    Rido Saddle

A bit harsh Rob. Lovely tractor though, reminds me of an old MF I had the pleasure of driving one long hot summer in the dim distant past (1979).

    seat height.

The advice you were given is correct. With electric bikes it is perhaps less important because you don't need to put in as much pedal effort yourself. But for normal cycling, with the saddle too low, you limit your power input and it is bad for your knees.

    Folding Bike

Both the Kudos Secret and A2B Kuo are nice bikes to ride but I wouldn't want to carry either about for long. The same is true for virtually all folders. If you need to take it on the tube or a bus, you really need a Brompton. <advertising removed>

Yet another big bloke with a grand to spend...

Juicy, Ezee, Freego and I suspect many others all have larger capacity batteries available. And of course a second hand Kalkhoff or some other Panasonic driven bikes also have larger batteries.

Yet another big bloke with a grand to spend...

Have you looked at the Kudos range? We now have Kudos bikes in addition to Juicy bikes and Kalkhoffs (not in your budget) available in North Devon. Check out our website for details http://www.bikehigher.co.uk/buy-an-electric-bike

    Summer expeditions?

For our trip we used 15Ah batteries on our Kalkhoffs which lasted us for about 50 miles. We had a spare battery for the four days we did over 50 miles. We stayed overnight in a mixture of B&Bs, hotels and pubs so charging was no problem. We carried a reasonable toolkit and spares for punctures...

    Wanted: bike storage solutions

Get a smaller bike. A Brompton is the smallest when folded but even a compact bike like the Kalkhoff Sahel Compact would get in the way less.

    Look no chain!

Saw (what I presume is) the new cycle hire bike scheme in Reading on our way through last week. The bikes have the Nexus 3-speed hub gear and no chain. I know it's not a new idea, but do you think chainless bikes will ever catch on? We didn't see many being used while we were there.

    Summer expeditions?

Just back from this trip, averaging 60 miles a day. 75 miles on the longest day but today's 58 miles across Exmoor into a strong westerly wind was the hardest. A few pictures of iconic places on the way.

    Kalkhoff Sahel Premium i360 Harmony

The fact is riding TS bikes and pedal sensor bikes is a completely different experience. Other people's opinions are just that, you must try them out on a decent run over mixed terrain and make your own mind up.

    Throttle cable splice

No soldering iron (or competency in using one). I have now joined them, heat shrink around each coloured wire and then heat shrink over the whole cable. The throttle now works and hopefully the join will be watertight. Thanks all for your help.

50 Mile round trip commute, feasible or not?

Kalkhoff do make an Impulse 2 Pro Connect Impulse 10 (with XT derailleur gears) but the 50Cycles stock sold out some while ago. It might be worth asking them about there future availability.

50 Mile round trip commute, feasible or not?

50 miles might be possible with the 400wh Bosch battery if it's reasonably flat and you are reasonable light and fit (I believe all this is the case from earlier in the thread). It would be no problem for the Kalkhoff bikes with their 612wh batteries but most Kalkhoff bikes come with hub gears...

    Kalkhoff Sahel Premium i360 Harmony

The mode on the Kalkhoff can be changed to "Sport" by using a service unit black box available from 50Cycles (I also have one). This increases the assist level across the board.
