    Seeking clarity on the law

Terry please don't apologise. It is a fair and reasonable question. It's the law/ politicians who are unclear and dragging feet. But as others have stated. Eu harmonising and the defacto 250 watt lable is what counts now. Relax and enjoy the ride.

    Kalkhoff handlebar controller compatibility

Tillson what I did was to spoof the speed signal. This means the assist would keeps on going as it thinks the bike is going slower than it was. Potential for assistance at 50+kph with the drive? The kallhoff has the 8 speed hub drive so a nice quick combo. If you keep it legal it has huge range...

    Kalkhoff handlebar controller compatibility

You can derestrict the Panasonic motor on my kalhoff. I could do it quite quickly and it would assist up to quite high speeds. How much is it then worth with 36 volt 12 amp five light battery?. I did it as a test on my BH it's quite simple and reversible. With a little effort I could make a...

In the under £1200 There are isn't a great deal of difference. A brand name will cost more with similar spec,s. Some off the offers/ex demo bikes that were £1500+ will have better components. My personal choice would be an ex demo or secondhand quality bike that is good to pedal un assisted...

Even a tesco hopper should manage an 8 mile commute and give you £400 change from your £800 budget. Ebay also provides a number of chances for a deal. However to trim it down age and fitness (include asthma and other limits,it's not about insulting you but need to know to get the best idea)...

Olrac One more question to answer on top of D8veh list is do you wear lycra when cycling? That and when where how and why will guide us as to what might suit you best. After all a rolls Royce might not be the best car for off road, or transporting the local cub pack but it might be the best car...

Also looking to commute in London - different parameters

Cyclezees' ansmann, should be better than the f40 folder and cyclezee is a recognised specialist electric bike dealer. Regular support on forum it would meet your spec. The 8 speed hub gives you a better gear range than the seven (400% against 300% if my memory is right)

Also looking to commute in London - different parameters

It meets your requirements with hub gear, small wheels, folding. It would also be very quickly boring. It has limited range and won't be the best at unpowered cycling. High depreciation too. The bosh previously mentioned would blow it away. Better control, higher average speeds, hold its...

Torque Sensor or Rotation sensor - how to find out

The BH emotion has torque sensors for the hub drive. It gives a natural control of speed feeling just like a normal bike. Others might recommend throttles and speed sensors. If you want to feel like riding a normal bike with bionic legs then torque is the way to go.
