Hopes for 20 mph assist limit dashed

Getting off topic I know, but I think it sounds like the same case - as you say they are not many of them. I think the press did stir it up with an anti-cyclist agenda, and I found some of the things said about it annoying and ill-thought through. I'm not sure I can agree that someone can...

    Reduce the sticky posts

Sounds like a good idea to me! Russ - please can we do this?

Hopes for 20 mph assist limit dashed

Good point, but strictly speaking, I would say that was behaving like a cyclist! Too many people don't realise that, by riding in or near the gutter, they are not only endangering themselves, but they are also more likely to endanger pedestrians.

    Bike Racks and Storage

I wasn't expecting that one - but yes, a bike hoist is no good if you have a hovercraft hull on your garage ceiling! Could you at least hang the wheels and tyres off the hovercraft hull? I know it would be overkill to get one specially just to store bike parts, but if you have one already...

Hopes for 20 mph assist limit dashed

As there are so few incidents where cyclists kill pedestrians, I assume that you mean the one where the girl had been drinking in a park all day and stepped out into the road in front of the cyclist. He shouted to warn her that he was there, which is actually quicker than reaching for a bell or...

    Powabyke 10 years on!

A great achievement - well done! Many early leaders in new markets don't make it to 10 years.

    Bike Racks and Storage

Nick, I can empathise with your situation, as I have 5 bikes and a tandem, plus half a dozen wheels, more tyres (including some Kenda ones that I can't give away!) in my garage. Most have stands, so they are easy enough to park. When I've identified one as not being in use, turning the...

Got Road Raged - Advice needed.

Sorry to hear about your incident. This kind of thing can be upsetting and basically ruins your day. The mistake is to go down to their level and pick a fight with a pig, as, if they are the kind of people who enjoy a bit of aggro, you can't win. When I get cut up I do usually make a point...

It won't take you long because there isn't any!

    Reduce the sticky posts

Cull the stickies! I was thinking of making a similar request. The outbreak of stickies is annoying on a normal computer but I often view the site on a handheld. On it, they are a real pain and make the site far harder to use - so increasingly I don't bother! Most forums have 2 or 3...

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

Interesting story, Alex. Cycling in London in rush hour is fine, by the way. Lots of us do it, most without feeling the need to wear protective items designed for other purposes!

An article in the Evening Standard on exactly this subject!

    Changeing Wisper gears

If you see one, get it! It's a simple screw on part. There should be no compatibility issues. I bought one for my kit bike just before they disappeared from the market and it has been fine. I've read somewhere that they are stronger than the 13-34 and 14-34 as they are made in a...

Rant: State of our (UK) roads

Agree with that - the surface of the new ones is not up to the standards they used to be. The other thing that is not done well is accomodating the ironmongery in the road. In my area there are lots of gratings and manholes which are usually below the surface and often at an angle.

Cycling on hold for the moment.

Of all the luck - I got a new bike at the weekend and can't use it! :(

    Battery switch recommendation anyone?

Interesting to read these responses - thanks everyone What I have at the moment are fairly robust connectors (Powerpoles). The reason I was looking for a switch is that I typically get some sparking when connecting, which I felt wasn't ideal, so thought it would be better to separate the...

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

Agreed, it's not nearly a general statistical proof that, say, social science research would require. It's only an example of one person behaving in exactly the way that Flecc hypothesised - and not just one incident as he does talk about it being a pattern of behaviour over 20-year period -...

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

Clearly none of us have done a proper study of this - it's based on observation. I agree it would be interesting to do that, but we're all busy so I don't know if it will happen. For me, when I read this post, I felt the point, which I had previously felt to be true without being certain...

    Battery switch recommendation anyone?

I can honestly say that I have no idea!
