    Battery switch recommendation anyone?

Thanks John, but I don't know if it would be safe to use one like that without wearing a helmet...!

    Battery switch recommendation anyone?

I'd like to fit a switch between my battery and controller. At the moment it there is a connector which I need to pull apart to switch it off. A simple switch would be handier. Obviously needs to be waterproof, able to cope with up to 20A at 36V, and not too big. It could be key operated or...

Kenda 26" tyres x 4 - nearly new, free to collector

I'd like to pass on the Kenda tyres which were fitted to my Powacycle and Wisper bikes when I bought them. I now don't have any 26" wheel bikes so have no conceivable use for them. The Powacycle ones are 26x1.75. They did about 500 miles on my wife's Windsor, with no punctures. Those...

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

There's no evidence to suggest that it makes a significant difference one way or the other.

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

Nick, I think its useful to set things out in this way to think about the bits of the question individually, but I feel you get to the wrong answer because some of your assumptions are not quite right. Firstly, number of cyclists suffering head injuries. As you say, we don't have the...

    * * * Tour De Presteigne 2009 Details * * *

I recall reading that David Henshaw had mechanical failure last year, so couldn't finish the race. I think our old friend, Dienamics, ended up coming second...!

    Bought an ebay bike

Well done Nick, There are some real bargains if you're willing to fix them up, and look for what is not in fashion at the moment. Steel framed mountain bikes are one category. Another which tend to go for next to nothing are mixte frames - those with low crossbars, mainly designed as women's...

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

I've read followers of the helmet religion saying that their helmets keep their heads extremely warm in summer, but I've not heard similar claims for winter.

    Tongxin Controller Question

I wouldn't try it with a Tongxin controller; they're proved too fragile to mess around with.

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

Very good! This is the article I was looking for, which supports my view that helmets not only make riders more likely to have accidents, but that they are far more likely to bang their heads when they do so.

I don't think it needs it. Mines been fine in the rain so far.

I got one of these for my bike, on James' recommendation, and am happy to recommend it too!

Ping battery problem - is it the cold weather?

I should say it wasn't a Tongxin controller. It was one I sourced from another supplier - who used to deal with Tongxin but stopped when he had so many controller problems! He tracked this one down in China and has offered it as an alternative to his customers who have had Tongxin ones fail...

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

OK... I think cycle helmet wearers are deeply religious people who have faith that, in the absence of any credible evidence, a polystyrene box will protect them from injury. Being a tolerant sort of person, I don't object to them, but find it mildly irritating when they imply that their...

Disk or V brake, pros and cons.

John, I would say that if you enjoy fiddling around with bikes as an activity in itself, change them, otherwise don't bother - just get some new Koolstop blocks. All I know about Agattu brakes is that people don't seem to complain about them, so they're probably ok, and you wouldn't gain much...

Ping battery problem - is it the cold weather?

I've opened up all my cable joints and connectors and checked for shorts, but it's still blowing the fuse as soon as I connect it. I guess there could be a short in either the controller or the motor. Presumably most likely to be the controller. Luckily I do have a spare Tongxin one so will...
