    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

Agree with motorbike helmets, but I'd not heard of this being a problem with helmets at lower, cycling speeds

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

In this specific context I think risk compensation has a particularly adverse impact, rather like a reverse placebo. The evidence from this thread and elsewhere is that people do seem to take more risks wearing a helmet, but actually the helmet does not make them safer.

    Cycle helmet wearers are reckless

I'm similarly nervous of re-starting the debate, however I just came across something this morning which might be an alternative explanation for the very high rate of serious accidents which people wearing helmets have - wind noise preventing them from hearing hazards clearly. This is from a...

Not sure my ebike is any quicker over my commute than a road bike would be.

He will have higher gearing so can drive the bike to higher speeds downhill, although you will have the advantage of greater weight which will make you naturally faster downhill. However, ebikes fare best against normal bikes in hilly country. He's probably a fairly fit cyclist to almost...

    Wisper panniers.

Steve, If you lift up the lever on the stem you'll see the bolt underneath!

    Wisper panniers.

Glad the panniers are getting good reviews. Suicidal dog reminds me of a little terrier a few months ago that ran across a path a few inches in front of my front wheel, then turned round and ran back, just in front of my wife who was following right behind. It was nearly killed twice within...

What's the best way to limit top speed?

Even simpler - but also throttle only - would be a physical restriction on how far the throttle turns round. Basically a strategically glued piece of plastic that could be "switched" out of the way when off-road

    New bike advice

Very late November! Still no sign of it as far as I am aware. I wonder what has gone wrong with it...?

    Battery switch recommendation anyone?

Thanks guys! Nick, the effect that you describe - that inrush of current on connection - is exactly why I wanted to fit a switch, as I tend to get sparks when I join my connectors, which doesn't feel quite right. The key switch on the Wisper didn't have such an obviously abrupt current...

Am i kidding myself? Advice please?

It's not out of the question but it is a long journey - twice my daily commute. For that reason, if it were me, I would want the fastest bike possible. A Wisper is not a bad option. You would need to charge at either end. As Mussels points out, the Panasonic system might not be ideal...

Worried about having your bike nicked?Try this?

I think it's a great idea! Lots of people in cities dont' have bikes because they don't have anywhere to put them. I know many people who carry their bikes up one or more flights of stairs to store in their flat every night. If it enables some more people to get bikes who otherwise wouldn't...

    Battery switch recommendation anyone?

Thanks, but I understand that. My question was how to identify a suitable switch, as they rarely seem to have current or voltage ratings. I was hoping someone might have used one they could recommend!

Rant: State of our (UK) roads

Speed bump design is important here. This is particularly important for cyclists but would also minimise this jerking of the car and consequent oil damage. Best practice is for humps to be sinusoidal, so curve is smooth, avoiding this jerk when the car hits it. Unfortunately many councils...

How many miles per week do you cycle?

100 miles a week, assuming I do my 12.5 mile each way commute 4 days a week on average. I miss some weeks with holidays but some holidays and weekends involve leisure cycling. I've done just under 5000 miles in just under a year, confirming that average. People I know at work who cycle...

    Battery switch recommendation anyone?

Thanks John (another John on this thread!) How do I work out if a switch will be up to the current / voltage demands? Maplin and RS rarely seem to make this explicit and, not being an electronics expert, I like to be sure before using something.

Rant: State of our (UK) roads

I think the road fund (from tax discs) wouldn't cover even 10% of the roads budget nowadays. We're really lucky as our local council has had a year of catch-up on road maintenance and is re-surfacing a lot of them. There's one in particular that I had almost started avoiding because the...

John, You didn't say if you or the deer were wearing a helmet! Would the outcome have been different...?

    A friendly little challenge......

Brian, You have just joined the forum and it appears that you haven't got the hang of it yet. Please take a little time to absorb some of the values of the forum, which do not include deliberately inflammatory posts or trying to exclude anyone from a particular thread. Thanks

    Battery switch recommendation anyone?

Thanks John - Inside bag is ok for me actually; which is the one you found?
