Ping battery problem - is it the cold weather?

I've read the reports of battery problems which several Kalkhoff owners have reported recently with some concern. This morning it was my turn. My Ping LiFePO4 battery has been in the garage, but unused over the recent cold spell. The sun was shining this morning, so I gave it a top up and...

In which case you've probably got your filters set already, John!

    Any Advice about Tiger Bikes

Bigger than a Powacycle! I think that had an 8Ah NiMH, and gave good range. If the system is matched to the battery it can still give good results.

    My Ebike

Looks good! One question - where is your controller? I couldn't see it. I hope it's not in the black bag on your crossbar, as they need to be in the open air to stay cool, as they have been known to burn out! Also, what motor speed are you using and how does that translate to hill climbing...

    My Ebike

Interesting report, but all I get on the photo site is a big red no-entry sign with lots of Russian writing! Would be interested in seeing the pictures. I too laced a Tongxin into a wheel the other week as my first wheelbuild; not as hard as I'd feared!

    Panasonic Battery Issues

I'm not sure I agree with that! Just because someone once misused statistics with tragic results does not give you grounds to declare the whole science to be in default. There lies the road to dumbing down. Remember many statistical techniques were developed specifically to predict...

    Panasonic Battery Issues

Just playing around with statistics a bit more (and assuming of course that the seller was not the sort of company which would return the duds to stock!) if a company sold 1500 batteries in a year, I make it that you would expect to see one customer getting a dud first time followed by a dud...

    Panasonic Battery Issues

Definately buy that lottery ticket! I don't think your maths is that far our, BM. I heard that 1500 Kalkhoffs had been sold, and if there are only 6 defective batteries out of that lot, there could only be 5 chances in 15,000 of Tillson getting a failure the second time round (as he'd...

    Ezee 20% Price Reductions!

I'm afraid it's the analogy that is betamax! You could say that Wisper and Ezee use the same format (hub motor) and Panasonic bikes like Kalkhoff use the other format (crank motor) but as the electricity they need comes in a form that is compatible with either format, they can all happily...

    developments for 2009?

That's an interesting idea. If you did it I think it could work and you might have invented the electric rowing bike! But you would need high gears and much lower cadence - perhaps 30-40 would be achievable - and it would be harder on the knees than cycling! The tandem would certainly be...

    Alternative to Urban Mover UM24?

I'm not the expert on those folders, but given your relatively short journey in a flat area, I would have thought most bikes would do the job. Critical issue with folders is to make sure they have high enough gears to enable you to do whatever pedalling you might want to do. Urbanmover has...

    Black Ice Grrrrrr

Sorry to hear of others falls. I've left my bike in the garage all week and was rather missing my ride in to work, but, reading this, I think I shall wait until the frosts have gone before getting it out!

    Warning, Avoid This One

What eBay now seems to be doing is not allowing the loser to take the money out of his / her paypal account for xx days after the transaction, in case the winner turns out not to have been so lucky after all!

    Warning, Avoid This One

Keith, you know how when you buy something, eBay likes to say you have 'won' it, to make you feel good / lucky? Maybe they're applying the same logic to sellers now, calling them 'losers'? So for every bargain that someone 'wins' or as we used to call it, buys, there would then be a loser who...

    "Voyager"

Well done, Bob, for getting to the bottom of it. I think I remember reading a post by David a while back saying that they had changed the levers to improve the brakes, so I believe you are right.

    equipping a workshop

I use one of these as an improvised workstand. It's rated at 20kg weight, is fully adjustable, costs next to nothing, and takes up no floor-space! It's priceless for adjusting gears, which is what I am going to do right now...! Frank
